The thread headline is a little misleading, it sounds like the usual bashing.
Anyway, we are definitely going to see some moves.
you think Ben has it in him? interesting....and thats not bashing, thats reality HF...
Clearly he does. Ben might have looked reticent by not signing any major big money guys in the off-season, but clearly it has been the right move.
Doubtful they do anything for a 3-4 hitter. The oiffense is the best in the game and clearly working. Dropping dow to second or third best offense from this point on is really not a sign that this is an area of weakness.
The bullpen is another matter. The Sox have already lost 3 of their opening day relievers for the season. Right now, we have 3 minor leaguers in the pen. I expect Cherington to look for deals to help here.
The rotation is also a concern. Buchholz is due back when? Workman has held his own for now. But do people really expect there to be no other injuries? Depth is always a good thing. The Braves had a surplus of starters 10 days ago, and had to contemplate wither demoting Teheran or moving wither Medlen or Beachy to the pen. today, they not only have room for Beachy, but are in the market for another starter. Starter surpluses are an illusion, and can turn into dearths very, very quickly. The worst thing the Soxcould do is head into the pennant drive absolutely NEEDING starts from Webster, Workman, etc. It might bode well for the future, but it does not bode well for the present.
Obviously, you do not mortage the farm for a starter, but acquiring one should be a higher priority than looking at another bat. Find the expendable prospects, the ones you have redundancies or little faith in, or who have significant injury histories that could present future problems (I am talking about you, Anthony Ranaudo.), and set that as the limit for what you give up...
We still do not have a bonafide 1-2 combo in the rotation, and will go nowhere in the PS unless we acquire one, farm be damned.
Doesn't matter does it?
You said we wouldn't get to the playoffs to begin with.
And why do you only show up when they're losing?
