Roster Moves Today - Is Middlebrooks or Bogaerts on their Way?

Anybody have an idea? Only reason why I'm wondering is that with Chen (lefty) on the mound, you would think Snyder would be playing 3B. But Holt is in there.  If he's not going to be in there against a tough lefty, why keep him on the roster?

    Anyone know?

Is there any truth to this?...... That Holt is really Matt Damon.?.. You never see the two together.

Bogaerts and Middlebrooks both 0-1 in Pawtucket game, batting 2nd and 3rd in the lineup.

I think Boggy is not going to be in Boston until Sept 1st, unless an IF'er is injured before then.

I doubt Middlebrooks is called up before Sept 1st.

Any idea why Holt is starting over Snyder vs the lefty?

    No, I dont...Interesting though...

edit: I just read that Chen does better vs RHH than LHH, which brings up another question as to why he would sit papi. He was runnung a lot and Im wondering how that heel is doing or if hes just tired.

Mark Reynold just released by Indians. Take a 3 week flyer on a proven RH power bat, oh BTW, he can play 3B.

    Mark just turned 30.

He has led the league in ks 4 times, has a career BA of .233, but only .214 since 2010. Unlike Adam Dunn, his OBP has not helped offset the poor BA (just .322 since 2010). The 107 HRs in his last 2138 PAs is really his only redeeming value. (About 35 HRs per 610 PAs)

If you guys can't stand Napoli, you'll really go nuts with this guy.

I'd rather play Carp/Nava at 1B, and I certainly wouldn't demote one of them to get this guy.

I guess he may be better than Snyder at 3B, but who knows.

Only reason why he might be up before is for post season roster, if they think he can help.

I'm guessing tired. He's played every day since July 5th, and secondly, I wonder what Papi's splits are against Chen.

I don't think he needs to be called up before September 1st to be put on the playoff roster. I'm not even sure he needs to be on the 40 man roster. There are ways to circumvent the intent of the the rules.

Bogaerts 4 for 6 in the doubleheader today, Middlebrooks 3 for 6.

Averages up to .287 and .269 respectively.

It's time to cut the cord with Snyder and bring up one of them. I'd give Bogaerts first shot. Let's see what the 20 year old can do.

Snyder had an .811 OPS with Pawtucket. Middlebrooks .772. Bogaerts .830.

Snyder has a career .923 OPS vs LHPs (95 PAs), perhaps this team's biggest weak link. Those are MLB numbers.

    Bogaerts will get his chance.

It probably couldn't hurt to bring him up, but I think we wai to Sept 1st.

You could be right.  I'm sure Ben has his reasons, but I do not understand it. Only 45 games left after tonight. Each game is important. I think we should have our best 25 on the roster.  Is there any doubt that Bogaerts and Middlebrooks are better than Snyder and Holt?  The only question would be who would play second if Pedroia got hurt before rosters expand. I'm thinking Drew could do it in an emergency.

Not intended for you SPaw, but I really get a jolt out of 'regular rest' for a DH.  It must be really draining to bat four times a game or whatever and chearlead from the bench the rest of the time.  Of course, he had a bunch of hits against Houston.  This must have attributed to his exhaustion.    Wink

I agree. SOMETHING has to be done to correct our performance vs LHP. Bogaerts (in just 47 PAs, I admit) is batting .319/1.016 vs LHP. I would get rid of Snyder and bring up XB.

WM should be brought up now and XB on Sept 1.  What the heck are the Sox doing with Snyder.  I can see Holt bc he is a utility guy.  Snyder is redundent.

Don't we want to win right NOW? They need to find a way to get both these guys up now...and stop dicking around with lesser players.....................
