Ellsbury, Pedroia, Napoli and Middlebrooks have all had bad stretches lately too.  That's baseball.  MLB pitchers are good.

Your hate for Ortiz is sad and pathetic.

Who's leading the team in Average,OPS and Slugging percentage?

In case you don't know, and you probably didn't,the answer is David Ortiz.

Next question, who looks REALLY foolish and pathetic with their Ortiz bashing?

While I agree that this Papi bashing and salavating anticipation of his impending injury is truly pathetic, the leaders in BA, OPS and SLG% are:

    BA:

    Iggy .450

    Carp .371

    Papi .338

    OPS:

    Carp 1.221

    Iggy 1.026

    Papi  1.010

    Nava   .913

    Ross   .832

    Napoli .831

    Salty   .815

    SLG%:

    Carp .800

    Papi  .634

    Iggy .550

    Ross .537

    Nava .515

    Naps .514

    Salty .495

    OBP:

Iggy  .476 (many IF hits and only 21 PAs)

    Carp  .421 (38 PAs)

    Pedey .420 (162 PAs)

    Nava  .398 (123)

    Papi  .377 (77)

    Vict   .375 (114)

    Gomes .361 (72)

    Ciriaco .353 (34)

    Salty    .337 (101)

    D Ross  .319 (47)

    Naps    .318 (154)

Ellsb    .318 (170) * Most PAs on the team and one of the worst OBPs.

    Drew   .309 (97)

    JBJ      .263 (38)

Midds .237 (135) 4th most PAs due to having no legitimate replacement.

Re: Rumors of Papi's Demise Have Been Greatly Exaggerated !

    No one hates Ortiz.

    softy does.

It is only that some of us thought he should not have been signed for two years at a rate of 30 million.

Most here thought he was grossly overpaid. You are not alone there, but he is here now. He is a Boston legend. He is in a mini-slump, but has great overall numbers and some big hits- something he has been lacking in recent years.

In the short time he has been back he already gone 2 for 20 and most of his homers are off bad teams and bad pitchers, something I predicted.

Great prediction. All hitters get most of their hits and Hrs off poor pitching and weak teams.

Once again, his non presence in spring training and the first few weeks of the season, worked in his advantage.  Now that the whole league is getting a look see on david, they are pitching him better.

You really think pitchers are just now figuring out how to pitch to a guy who has been in MLB and made countless adjustments to his game since 1997? This is an absurdity near the level of softy the clown's.

I think what we have seen this past week will be more of the norm with Oritz, rather then his fast start.  Unless of course he has to get back to the Dominican for personal reasons. Then once again he will have a productive week or two on his return.

Now, your true colors are shining through.  You and softy should make good bedfellows (in every sense of the word).

I probably should have qualified it by saying players with 50 or more at bats.

Carp has 35 and Iglasias has 20 ABs.Ortiz has 71 so far.

revise your numbers and calculate from the first game of the texas series and then tell me where david stands in these categories.  A fast start can can carry a player thru the season in these categories.  You know it but will still imply that Ortiz is hitting well.

The numbers being used are from the 2013 season. If you want to cherry pick numbers maybe they should be revised not including the Texas series. How would they look then?

Maybe we could just use last night numbers. That would make Saltalamacchia a .500 hitter and give Lester a 0.00 ERA.Numbers aren't that hard to manipulate. The best indicator of averages is the season, not just the last week or last night.

Not sure what goes thru your head.  Would you rather everyone see things your way?  When I go to games, especially when I saw David in McCoy, I cheer for him and act like a little kid, hoping he homers.  But when I am in front of keyboard posting my thoughts, I don't act on emotions but rather the numbers I see from David being put up.

David's numbers are terrible for the last week or so and even last night when the sox were hitting, he was silent.

What goes through my head is not making rash judgements based on small sample sizes. IMO, it is you that is "acting on emotions" based on a tiny sample size.

Sorry for linking you to softy. You seem to really want Papi to do well, but like softy, you have no hope that he will do well.

"It all comes down to what have you done for me lately. "

Maybe for you it does,I look at what I think he'll do over the course of the season.Lackey lost the last game he pitched. So even though he has an ERA 2.82,do you think the Sox should trade him because he's 1-3?

Buchholz gave up 4 runs in 6 innings to a pretty bad Twins team his last outing ,should he go too? What has he done for us lately?

Why are the last 20 PAs more important than the first, middle or any selected 20 PAs? Because it fits your position?

Papi's season PA sample size is still too small to judge, but I see the season sample size as more legitimate than a week long sampe size. No, I do not expect Papi to end up with a 1.000+ OPS, but I'll bet he;s closer to 1.010 than his .484 OPS of the last 7 days. That puts the over/under at   .747. Care to wager on the under of a final OPS of .747? I think not, right?

My guess is, Papi will end up with 450-525 PAs and an OPS between .880 and .940. If I had to bet on abover .940 vs below .880, I'd take the over.

71 PAs is not meeting qualified levels either and is about half what Ellsbury has.

It's a small sample size. Yes, bigger than Iggy and Carp, but still small none the less.
