Ortiz with another sick day. He needs it, but those that claim he's at least 120 to 130 games started are delusional.

He's on pace for about 120 if they keep giving him days off at the rate they have been since returning from the DL.

With today off, I didn't see the need to sit Papi.

How hard is it to DH?

On the other hand, two days off in a row, could really help a player that had no standard spring training.

Ortiz wasn't going to prevent Dempster from giving up 5 HRs.

This is what I was thinking. It will give him 2 days off to get ready for a long run of consecutive games. Not hard to understand that.

He's a DH that has to run to 1B maybe 3-5 times a night.

He's already had some days off and not too long ago at that.

Unless the injury is still bothering him, he should play 19 out of 20 sceduled games or more.

They know more than us and I think it would be better to give him a nice rest before playing 27 games in a row without a day off and a lot of traveling. I want him for the 2nd half. With his injury its not strange, at least to me, that they would plan it this way.

I would say it is clear that the heel is still bothering him to some extent.  He is not "running" well.  If there is any inflammation or irritation or whatever, a two day rest could be very useful.

That's the only reason I see giving him 2 days off. Even that is questionable. He probably runs some in drills on the days off anyways.

    Good lord, Moon.

    Of course it's still there.

Had you heard Ortiz or Farrell say he was %100 yet?

When was the last time you heard a coach say his athlete was a hundred percent?  When was the last time an athlete said he was a hundred percent.  Here is a news flash, most athletes play with problems and few are playing a hundred percent healthy.

But this isn't a knock on Ortiz, let him take all the time off he wants, you will not get any complaints from me.

    Hey Fourb's:

When do you think we'll hear that Otiz or any other play is playing at 100 percent?  Possibly Belichick will do that this season with Tom Brady.

    For the thick-headed among us:

"Farrell indicated it would be unrealistic to expect Ortiz, whose condition has been diagnosed as Achilles tendinopathy, to be able to play every day upon his return.

"We'll certainly work off David on this," Farrell said. "To say we have 'X' days and 'X' games, we'll use him as our guide. We're going to have balance getting him back into full shape as well as monitor how much stress that heel can take."

Farrell made it clear, in April, that Ortiz would need scheduled days off.

Yet, some still act surprised when it happens...

I know what Farrell said. I was not surprised he gave Papi another day off. I just disagree that he needs it. Isn't that allowed in a free country?

Indeed Moon.  So is vigorous dissent.
