You'll never get him to give Ortiz a legitimate compliment.  The best you'll get is something like this: 'Good for him!  Still have to be concerned how much longer the 38-going-on-44-year old can keep it up!'

Hey moonslav:  Everyone in RedSox nation still has confidence that Ortiz can still hit the long ball.  A 2-12 series against the Yankees and against fair pitching, isn't a big reason to bump a thread and accuse others of not appreciating Ortiz.

Ortiz came bat with that fire in his eyes and reports of a good bp. No one is surprised he homered.

Yeah, maybe "surprise" was the wrong word, but certainly many here do not fully "appreciate" what Papi has done and is still doing for us.

Papi is going to be passing a lot of legends on various all time lists.

Not bad, when you consider he did not become a FT player until age 27 (after more than 6 seasons in MLB).

His 12 year numbers since joining the Sox and becoming a FT player are right up there with the best of the best. Sure, there are a few with better numbers.

    2003-2014 Best OPS (5,000+ PAs)

    1.001 Pujols

    .964 Cabrera

    .955 Ortiz

    .929 Berkman

    .929 ARod

    .911 Jones

    .910 Fielder

    .910 Holliday

As bad as this season has been, I am enjoying watching Big Papi tie or break records. It's something even his haters will look back on and say "remember when?"

Instead of focusing on the negative Papi-isms, we should make note of his accomplishments. It's too bad these don't make the headlines like his Papi-isms do.

He did give a shout out to Mookie via Twitter earlier.....

David Ortiz @davidortiz · 2h Tough loss last night but congrats to my boy mookie bets for his first career homerun...big moment

Papi's still on pace for about 36 Hrs and 100 RBI.

Yes, the 2Bs and OPS are down, but at 38 years old 36/100 is pretty awesome.

Right now he has about 30% of the team's HRs (19/63).

He has over 1/6th of the team's RBIs (53/304).

Too bad he's so slow running the bases.

Ortiz in a game that the Sox got destroyed in took 2 mighty swings for extra base hits and one other that the shift burned him of a hit. This guy keeps getting good at bats despite being pitched around and despite being the only real power hitter in the lineup (Napoli better start swinging if we want another 20-HR hitter this year). He is a legend, and having a pretty good season for a DH his age or any age.

Still stunning that the Sox are 12 games over .500 when Ortiz homers....and fill-in-the-losses below when he doesn't. Maybe not stunning as much as the Sox don't hit for power and don't score runs and rely on one guy to carry them.
