    In response to southpaw777's comment:

He had 35 last year didnt he?

i could see a slight regression in HR totals this year, but still a legit shot at 500 this year. Should be dun to watch and see if Papi can do it this year.

i'm thinking the opposite.  i love the new players we brought in to surround him in the lineup.
i expect more patience / higher OBP / higher slg% from papi in 2015....i dont think he feels he will have to "do it all" offensively (less chasing / rolling over).

Once he gets back in the swing..... I think we'll see the ole Papi light 'em up again.

It's no secret he is getting older, so I'll really appreciate anything he can bring to the plate. And enjoy the entertainment and chatter he brings along with him.

I asked you nicely once to stop bumping up old repetitive threads. This is not a debate or a discussion. We (not just me) are getting tired of archiving them. If you do it again you are going to take a vacation from the forum. Thank you for your anticipated cooperation.

Big Papi now with 19 HR and a team-best .800 OPS. He should end up with 25+ bombs and finish the year within sight of #500. Not too shabby for an old guy.

Re: Rumors of Papi's Demise Have Been Greatly Exaggerated !

See how one game can affect a season's stat line.

We're 9 games from the 2/3rds mark of the season. Here are the team leaders in selected categories (115+ PAs):

    OPS

    .825 de Aza

    .800 Ortiz

    .783 HanRam

    .774 Pedey

    .763 Bogey

    .759 Holt

    .751 Betts

    OBP

    .364 Holt

    .351 Hanigan

    .348 Pedey

    .346 Bogey

    .333 de Aza

    .332 Ortiz

    .315 Betts

    .314 HanRam

    .306 Napoli

    .304 Pablo

    SLG

    .492 de Aza

    .470 HanRam

    .468 Ortiz

    .436 Betts

    .426 Pedey

    .417 Bogey

    .395 Holt

    .377 Napoli

    .368 Pablo

    HR

    19 Ortiz & HanRam

    11 Napoli

    10 Betts

    9 Pedey

    7 Pablo

(Nobody else with more than 3)

RBI (Nobody on pace for more than 80, except Papi)

    54 Ortiz

    47 Bogey

    46 HanRam & Betts

    XBH

    40 Betts

    36 Ortiz

    27 Napoli, HanRam & Bogey

    24 Pedey

    22 Holt

    21 Pablo

    15 Hanigan & Swihart combined

There's a good chance Papi ends up leading the team in just about every offesnive category other than OBP.

Certainly his "demise" has been exaggerated once again.

He might actually reach 30 or come close -- 5 HR in Aug and 5 more in Sept.  is certainly reasonable, which would give him 29. His RBI pace has gotten back on pace since the horrible May (7 RBI) so 90-plus RBIs might be in reach.

Don't know, but he's definitely still clogging up the base paths.

    Now 20 HRs.....
Maybe if he gets really hot he gets 14 more to reach 500 this season. One of the few interesting story lines to follow in the next 2 months .

Ortiz isn't selfish. He's a team player. When he doesn't hustle up the line, it's because he doesn't want to pad his average with cheap hits only to clog up the bases.

He's on pace for 30 HRs again.

It's doubtful he reaches 100 RBI.

Rumors of Alex Rodriguez's demise have been greatly exaggerated as well.

The 6-3, 225-pound Rodriguez and 6-3, 230-pound David Ortiz are players of Dominican ancestery who signed their first professional contracts with the Seattle Mariners less than eight months apart in 1992-93.

Rodriguez, who turned 40 years old today, and Ortiz, who turns 40 in November, had posted these remarkable numbers this year entering Monday's games:

    DO 377 PA, .243/.332/.468/.800, 38 R, 19 HR, 54 RBI, OPS+ 119

    AR 381 PA, .277/.375/.539/.914, 55 R, 23 HR, 58 RBI, OPS+ 151

A-Rod's bounceback season is a heartwarming story indeed.

But would you happen to have his WAR figures for the years 2012, 2013 and 2014?
