don't have a link just yet. MLB network JUST NOW reported it. One year 10 million. I'm on my iPad, and can't paste the link. It's on reds.com. Good move for the Reds. -

How would Reds signing Madson comes back and haunt us?
The only way we are playing Reds is in the WS. -

Im sure the Sox made some kind of offer, but they could not guarantee Madson what he and Scott Boras REALLY wanted....the sole person being considered to be the teams closer. The Reds can offer Madson to the chance to showcase his stuff so he can try and cash in on free agency next year. If he ended up in a set-up role for the Sox it would have severely hurt his pay day for next season, and we all know Boras would never allow his commision to decrease. -

Funny how the small market teams are buying the big-name players while the larger markets are shopping at the rummage sale! -

Good call sox4life2280...some people around here need to be reminded that not every player views Boston as the ideal place to sign with, all else being equal, and that sometimes there's something about another team that appeals to certain players. Just because the Reds got Masden for that price doesn't mean the Sox could have (or even should have). -

Funny, I thought that the reason for this has been explained many times both in the media and on the forum. -

2013 FA Closers are nominal. This "pillow contract" as Boras termed it in the Beltre contract with Sox. If he does well with Reds, he can parlay it into a longer more lucrative deal.
If Reds are out of it by Allstar they can trade him. -

Posted by AlibiikeReally? Melancon and Bailey were at the rummage sale? Silly Ike. For basically the price of one overratted one year wonder, we get two better, younger closer types. At least pay attention to what is really happening with the Sox before you make your lambasts. -

I dont think that the Sox are 2nd guessing themselves, but I wonder if the Phils are?
I thought Pap was the best relief pitcher on the market, but not at the numbers the Phils gave him

The Sox had no chance at signing him, he wants to be a closer with the acquisition of Bailey, that position was filled here. -

Who thinks the Phillies are now second guessing if committing 50 million to Papelbon was necessary? -

I think they'll sign a few more low cost pitchers and possibly a right handed hitting platoon type outfielder and call it a winter... -

Me for one. I think they bit too early, and have way overpaid.
