Red Sox Acquire Joel Hanrahan From Pirates By Zach Links [December 22 at 3:34pm CST]The Red Sox and Pirates have agreed to a deal that will send Joel Hanrahan to Boston, according to Jim Bowden of ESPN.com (on Twitter). Jerry Sands and Stolmy Pimentel will go to Pittsburgh in the swap and there will be more players involved in the deal.

Because Jon Heyman overstates the potential of Jerry Sands.
The Red Sox didn't seem to think much of him. He didn't appear to be part of their plans at all, even with openings at 1B and LF. Seems like this could either work out really well or bite us in the rear, but I'm hoping for the former. -

I guess we can add Hanrahan to the good in 2011, but not as good in 2012 stockpile:
5.4 BB/9 in '12 2.1 BB/9 in '11

Enjoy it while we can.Maybe the Sox saw something in his pitching motion last season that they feel is easily remedied and therefcore he is a great snag for the team.

Sands has 4 HR's in 251 MLB AB'sat the age of 25! Hardly a Holiday type! I am really liking this deal so far depending on who the other players are.
