So spoiled have I become.  It's been an hour since any news, and I am wondering what is the hold-up.

Geez.  It used to take days for these things to be resolved and for the press to release information.  Darn internets and tweeties have made me soft and anxious for a treat!
LOL - so very true.  One could only pick up the Globe or whatever so many times in a day to ... and even if you got the sports bible, Sporting News, it only came out weekly.

And yet, I can flick this site on a dozen times in a day, several times in an hour, to see if anything has happened, what rumors are trending and so on ....

This is a good deal for teh Sox if it goes as described.

We keep iggy and we get a legit closer and we give up a prospect.

The guy had 70+ saves for Pittsburgh in 2 years.  We don;t have a legit closer - so this is a smart trade.

    Hope it happens as described.

Hanrahan is a Free Agent after this season with No Compensation, from I read. Be careful Ben, dont give up too much. At least the quality Prospects, or Major Leaguers.
I agree.  If Melancon is the only ML player involved then I am fine with that.....but any more then I would try to work out a 2 year extension first....kind of like what Toronto did with RAD.

Didn't Cherington and the rest of the Red Sox brass state last winter after trading for Bailey that they had a legit closer?

Sox overpaying. Other than 2011, every year his WHIP was over 1.2, which is not good for a closer. Also, his lifetime K/BB ratio is 2.27.

Yes they did.  If you are happy with Bailey - then Hanrahan is a bad acquisition.

Personally - i think we need a closer and acquiring one as good as Hanrahan for the rumored players we are giving up?  That's a good deal.

Hanrahan isn't a bad acquisition either way.  As you know I like Bailey but Giving up sands and Pimentel? Who cares aboout those two.

As it stands right now the Red Sox have a very good bullpen.

Absolutely - and if Bailey outperforms Hanrahan in ST - then let Bailey close and the other two set up.

Sox fans have to be happy about the Bullpen that Cherrington is assembling.  At least that is looking good.

you have it backwards. if JH outperforms bailey in ST then he gets the closer role. Bailey is better than JH and its his job to lose.

Hes going to be an insurance policy in case Bailey gets hurt again. Hes NOT the closer. That is unless Bailey looks horrible in ST and hanrahan is lights out. Its Baileys job to lose.
