Because Doubront has no options left, and six months ago, Webster couldn't record an out at AA.  If he belongs on the big league club, he'll have repeated success and force a roster move.  To do so now is premature.

De La Rosa has a grand total of 61.1 innings in mlb the last two years, including .2 innings last year because of an injury and maybe 100 overall minors and majors the last two years.

    Yup. Sounds like he's ready.

The logic in the OP shows the ignorance of too many posters. Just because someone has the potential to be better than a current player on the roster, it doesn't mean he's currently a better player.

Its much more imprtant who are able to get outs in September and October then April. Both will have a pitch limit. Hopefully they find a way to limit their innings so they will be available in October. Not starting for the Red Sox in April is one way.

Webster threw three scoreless innings today striking out two and walking one. The Red Sox radar gun had his fastball at 99 miles per hour. He needed just 29 pitches to get through his three innings. And sadly when spring training ends, like De La Rosa, Webster will be headed to the minor leagues. Yes i understand that Lester/Buchholz/Lackey/Demster are in the rotation but why close the number 5 spot and hand it to Doubront? And why not put De La Rosa in the bullpen for the late innings. And have Jackie Bradley on the team. Let's actually try to get in the playoffs this year by playing the best 25 players.

Are you giving up on Doubront already?  Who did Webster get out?

I still like all three of them including Barnes, don't let his tail off last season fool you the kid can pitch and doesn't need to throw 99MPH like Bard.
