Show of Hands - Who Still Thinks This Team has a chance?

Yes or no, let's see some hands.

JimFromFla - What are your thoughts?

Watching the game, this team is playing like they are 8 games out.....on September 25th.

Do they have a chance??  Yes.....will it happen?? No.

This team needed WAY too many things to go right for a successful season.

    1) Going into season with no leadoff hitter

    2) Going into season with 2 unproven rookies in key positions.

    3) Going into season with 2 players (WMB and Vic) with injury history at key positions with no real backup plan.

    4) No real speed

    5) New catcher

    Now......about Don Orsillo's hair....

    Nope. Toast.

    Straight up and simple.

Last place is a possibility though.

The Cubs?  Theo's loving this.  Disgraceful. .

This season is done. This series with the cubs was the knockout blow. It's beyond embarrassing to lose 3 straight to the cubs. And as I said before, de la rosa should have stayed in the rotation not workman. Season over.

Not I. Team is dead this year because of the ineptness of Front Office this year. It was over in June so it's take profit this year for the FO and they had better sign Lester after that insulting offer by Larry Luchinno early this year.

As far as the number of games behind, they still do have a chance. However, the way they have played to date, there is no chance.  It is hard to find a ray of hope that they can turn it around. They could soon be in give up mode and we may see a garage sale at the deadline.

Unfortunately, this team as comprised has no chance to turn it around. These players should be traded on or before July 31 if possible:

    1. Carp  2. Gomes 3. Drew 4. Breslow 5. A.J. 6. Ross 7. Doubrant 8. Koji 9. Badenhop 10. Herrera 11. LESTER

I say Lester only if Sox can't resign him.  They can get a lot for him from a team wanting to go for it all this year.  I say Koji for the same reason although he won't bring as much as Lester.

How about a real blow-out with a worst-first-worst attempt? Sell everyone except Lester, let him walk on a QO, then get the first draft pick, the first comp pick, and the first 2nd round pick.

Awesome! (Just remember to turn off the TV ...)

Do they have a chance??? of course they have a chance.  Is it unlikely? of course it is unlikely.

You can understand that a lot has gone wrong, not have your hopes up, know that the team is very unlikely to do anything, but at the same time remain hopeful.

Not everyone is a Donny Downer, who super powers of negativity grow with every Red Sox loss and lead them to go on a tirade of bashing every player, ever young prospect, and ownership

Nobody will give up anyting for Carp, Drew, Ross, Herrera. You missed Mujica, but he's signed through next year and nobody will take him.

Trade able commodities include Gomes, maybe AJ, Koji and Doubront. Why would you trade Badenhop when he's cheap and he's been performing?

It was the mantra for two positions, JBJ and Bogaerts. Outside of that the kids were forced to play because the veterans are underperforming (Pedroia, Nava, Ortiz-AVG, Victorino-MIA, Drew). The kids were forced to play because they have nothing else. Plain and simple.

I give A's to Holt, a B to Ortiz, a B- to JBJ given what he has been tasked to do, and C's or below to everyone else.

Ownership put a team together going into April with the one of, if not the worst outfields in baseball. For a team with a payroll north of $170M. That is unacceptable. The results are proving this mistake and the actions (Holt in OF, Betts called up at 21) are showing it.

How could you not be disappointed in what you are seeing on the field. Just look at the four guys who hit HR's for the Cubs last night. That tells it all.

And what is a team supposed to have when veterans go down and/or underperform????
