So said Jonathan Papelbon of the 2012 Phillies..... and I think he is talking about 2013 to. What a tool.

He hasn't had leadership since 2010 I guess. I feel abd for him... I wonder if it ever dawned on him to be a leader.

I'd say that's pretty unlikely. I don't think it's in his genetic makeup.

They should trade him to the dodgers.

Not sure that would solve his leadership issues either... -

Keep talking Pap, we will take you back over Bailey at a nice discount. -

Papelbon lead by performance, year after year after year. Because he isn't a leftist drone, Red Sox fans hated the guy. What a compliment, being hated by the People's Republic of New England.

How many closers are EVER 'team leaders'? Not even mariano Rivera, the greatest closer ever, is talked about as any kind of vocal/clubhouse leader.
What a tool...giving his opinion about a team as disappointing as the Sox the past few years. Jeez, bum.
At least he kept his production mostly consistent. I WISH a few Sox players would've had something similar to say after 2011 after that embarrassing collapse but it was all excuses. Now, suddenly everyone can dump on Valentine after he imploded...how convenient.
I'd take Pap back in a heartbeat.

He consistently blew saves in the playoffs. You have to give him that. -

IMO, this is not something that Paps should be addressing through the media. If he feels there is a lack of leadership, he should address it in the clubhouse rather than airing it publicly.
I have no hard feelings against him. I loved Paps, and would have loved to have him back, but not at the price that he commanded.

Glad he's gone. He was really starting to get his Texas Tough guy on at the end of his tenure with the Red Sox. Likely becoming the new Beckett for Philly?
Good idea for him to shut up & pitch!

one thing consistent about the state of texas; they grow 'em all dumb. i wonder if mr. softy is from the lone star state?
I have no problem with the fine folks from Texas, and would never insult them by suggesting Stiffy might hail from that fine state. Beckett, Paps, & Stiffy are anomalies. -

He never spoke much to the media. Why he decided that this was something to address with the media is beyond me. Watching too much BV on TV. -

IDK about that Carnie..... in 09 (his last appearance in the playoffs) he let up his first earned run in 30 sumodd playoff innings.. he was pretty dependant as a closer. Just too expensive -

the fact that he pitched about 60 innings a year really irked me considering the money he wanted....he was always a meathead but at least he was good....im still glad we didnt resign him....the least of our worries is a one inning specialist
