He probably was 29. Still, what an incredible artist. Even today if you say Hank, most people know who you are talking about. Now John Prine, talk about your incredible storytellers. A few years back Guiness put on a big free music festival in Golden Gate Park and I actually passed up seeing Van Morrisson so I could see John Prine. This is my favorite John Prine song. Probably because when I was in High School I was in a two guitar rock and roll band and the other guitar player was a Vietnam Vet.

Here's another John Prine composition. David A.Coe did a great job with this, but I can't find a video. It's a really good song: Prine's favorite.

Wow, harness. That was wonderful.

it's funny how when the yankees were first revealed to have PED users that the sox fans condemned the yankees for cheating, they called the WS titles tainted.  But when ALL the facts came out, it was discovered that many teams had many players using PED's that the sox fans defend thier team by saying every other team was using in the steroid era, therefore it is no big deal.

Hypocracy........condemn the yankees for doing but justify the sox for doing it because everyone else was doing it.......unbelievable.

Nice Carnie. The fact you chose Prine over Morrison says a lot about what you prioritize.

Moon: I'm starting to get a handle on your musical taste.
Kinda reminds me of progressive Beatnik with suicidal tendencies!
But the lyrics are eye-openers.

Here's a question for this thread's music enthusiasts:
Is this song about 3 chicks? Or 1?

Posted by harness
I figure it's one girl. As a matter of fact I might have dated her in the 80s. On a side note, didn't Hank get hooked on drugs after he got thrown from a bronc in a rodeo?

Hank had spina bifida. He drank to ease the pain. Once ya feel the high of pills/booze, you don't need much of a reason to keep doing it.

What do you think of the music from his grandson?

Hank III? He's got a real country soul from what I've heard. I've only ever heard his debut album I think. I had a roomie who was a roadie for the stones who was also kind of a country cat. He hooked me up with Hank III's first album. It reminded me a little of Dwight Yoakam, in the best possible way.

That song has always mystified me in this regard. The obvious conclusion is he's a roust-a-bout bronco rider who has a girl in every port - with the allusion to weather strictly geographical.

But it's possible WINDY/RAINY/SUNSHINE is reflective of her/his moods.

The staying power of this duo is incredible. Their first hit was a cross-over smash. But LET YOUR LOVE FLOW, despite making 3 mil, made little for them, as they were screwed by record execs. Needless to say, the business bacame a family one after that.

This shows some of their writing range:

This one has interesting content for a"country" song:

EDIT: Hank #3 went rock big time. And he's pretty vulgar in live performances.
I really question his muscal choices. He's got more talent that that.

Posted by harness
They got screwed on Let Your Love Flow? That might have been the best song published in the 1970s. That's as bad as John Fogerty getting screwed on Cosmo's Factory.

The way I heard it, they may have even lost $$$ on LET YOUR LOVE FLOW!

I can't begin to tell you of how many songwriters I knew that got the short end. It's common practice.

What did you think of "Crossfire"?

Re: So Long, Manny Ram

Enough with the idea that the Sox (or any team since the mid 80's & most likely earlier than that) championships are "tainted". You had juice hitters, facing juiced pitchers all the time. Not to mention the "I just feel bad for the guys who were clean" argument holds no water. Those guys knew steroids & HGH were in the game. They knew they had guys on their team taking them and they said nothing. All the WS series wins since the mid 80's are still wins, end of story. The BoSox earned '04 & '07, so let us just leave it at that.
