Not one name you listed would I be interested in, with possible exception of Colorado's Carlos Gonzalez....but even then , LOT of moolah. -

Nothing longer than that though. The only guy worth a longterm deal in MLB right now outside of the King just flew to LA. BTW, I finally found Laphroiag at one of my neighborhood delis. Good stuff.

Id give up anything to have Tulo or cargo. those are two young five tool players you build a team around. cargo and tulo are worth every cent they make. -

I would be interested in Morneau at 8 Million in 2013 if the Twins eat 5 Million. I think Willingham could be interesting also as a LF/RF option. I also like the idea of Cabrera from the Indians but I doubt they would trade him. -

Since this is a list of players available for trade...just wondering who the Sox will trade to acquire these guys?

There are certainly not many players on that list that would interest me at this time if I were the Red Sox. Some of them are good players, but are either making too much money or have contracts that are far too long.
I am seriously hoping that the Red Sox have changed their approach to those long contracts at high dollars. There have just been so few players who have performed well enough to justify the 5-7 year contracts at the high money throughout the entire major leagues. In fact, I am having trouble even naming one of them right now.
Use David Ortiz as an example of probably having a different approach to his baseball on a one year contract than what he had when he was on a longer contract. He got more disciplined at the plate, learned how to hit lefties and lost about 25 pounds. Not sure if he would have done any of these things with a 4 year, $15M deal. Too bad he got a fluke injury this season. -

Let's all face it right now..... This team is NOT... I repeat....NOT going to be a "real" winner for a few years. It will be a middle of the pack "also-ran" as they try to build the team. WHY trade for trash on someone else's heap?
Ben restored some of the integrity of a once-great franchise when he jettisonned several mistakes..... However, if he is fair to the rest of the team then he will also allow several other good players to seek employment where they too can succeed.
Pedroia... why not let him go and play where he might see the Post -season again? Lester ...if it is going to be a re-building why not trade him to somewhere that he could enjoy life?
YOU see, I think this giant ball- has rotted from the inside to the very edges of it. It is time to throw it all in the crapper, and flush it. Next year we start with some younger kids and play for 4th place in our division.... the year after we try to get good enough to be third... and the year after that pray to be good enough to at least make the second wild-card....
I do NOT want to try to get the "great" players on the other team.... it doesn;t seem that works....
The Grass is always greener on the other side of the fence... but maybe that is because their septic tank is backedup and is fertilizing their side better than ours. -

Moon, I have the utmost respect for you i really do. But why would we go spend millions again for guys that are in their prime or almost past it? Yes I realize that some are younger, but why go back to the 180MIL payroll. The core of this team will now be young. Pay the price and keep building younger.
Being in your prime is a fleeting thing that can happen quickly and leave just as quickly. The sox have a chance to build like Tampa has now that they have been relieved of 261MiL in contracts. The strangle hold is over, why would we want to go back to that? -

I often go back to read what i wrote only to find out it's not what I said!I never said I wanted all or any of these guys. I just gave a list of high priced players on teams perhaps willing to cut some salary for the right return.
The Sox will try and remain competitive next year, if just to sell tickets. They may try and get a Morneau as a bridge to Travis Shaw or someone we move to 1B (Cecchini? Bogaerts?).
I am not for this next idea, but it could happen: trade away some of our SS prospects and get Reyes from Miami, a Butler from KC, or Cuddyer from Colo, or someone else signed beyond 2013/2014...

Understood, I would rather stick it out with the prospects we have gathered and the few more we may get from trades or free agents going bye bye. Just my thoughts. -

Only a total idiot wouldn't want Jose Bautista, Kin Felix, Cliff Lee, Ryan Braun and any number of people on that list in a Red Sox uniform.
One clown said only Carlos Gonzalez.
Glad he's not running the team. -

Great post MOONMAN, thank you so much for your contributions....... I see the Sox in the drivers seat going forward.... I also see the $ox being very "SMART" with future F A desires......... What an opportunity this trade has provided, my GOSH "broom cleaning of the roster" !!!!! -

I would rather have the prospects up for a year, and figure out who can play and who cannot, than have the red sox spend a ton of money and get another average non playoff team.
Now if the Red Sox will address the cancer sitting in the front office named Lucchino. I am more concerned with the leaks about the cell phone text, throwing Francona under the bus than the ball players. -

I would like to see Franceour in RF in Fenway (with Ross in LF), Masterson pitching in the 4 slot in the rotation, and Morneau at 1B. Just would not be willing to trade any young pitching prospects or any position players named Brentz, Bradley, Bogaerts, or Marerro (and possibly Swihart). The question is, what could the Sox get for Padilla, Aceves, Iglesias, Vitek, Cechinni, Wilson, Hassan, etc. (ie, redundancy). I doubt you get Masterson or Morneau for any of them, but you might get Franceour. -
