Record collapse eclipses any career year of a single player. Red Sox need to utilize trade market in a big way this winter. Ellsbury should be sold to highest bidder.

ELLS IS GOING TO BE ONE OUR FRANCHISE PLAYERS ALONG WITH AGON AND PEDROIA.  HE PLAYED HIS HEART OUT FOR COLLAPSING TEAM AND TOOK HOME SS, GG, AND (MVP IN MY HEART).  AND ALL YOU CAN SAY IS TRADE HIM TO THE HIGHEST BIDDER??

SOX DON'T NEED TOP OF THE ORDER PITCHER, HR HITTING DHER, NOR RHB OFED...
WHAT SOX NEED FOR 2012 IS MORE DEDICATED FANS WHO SUPPORT NO MATTER WHAT...

If I remember Ells still played just as hard during the collapse as he did during the summer when they were the best team in MLB.... So how can you blame any part of the collapse on him.... Both MVP awards went to the wrong players this year. Not that Braun and Verlander didn't deserveto be considered, But Kemp and Ells should have won these...

I agree.  I would have voted for Ellsbury and Kemp. The failure of a few of one's teammates to produce should not be held against the player having the great year.  However , with just a few exceptions , that is the way it works.

I have no heartburn with Verlander getting it because he had a great year and the voting wasn't even close.   That he won the MVP reflects the lesser achievements of lineup players in the AL this year.  Interesting to consider that, had Verlander not been so great, Ellsbury just might have won the MVP.

Unfortunately, we may lose Ellsbury because of this season and his increased value.  That said, I doubt seriously trading him this winter will bring much back.  Certainly not a #1 starter like Hernandez or Linecum or whoever.  Why?  Because those other clubs will argue what softlaw hankwilliams argues--it's only one year.  And, thanks to Youkilis's intemperate remarks last year, Ellsbury might not want to stick around with this particular team.  Reportedly, he has exactly one friend, Jed Lowrie.

Last off season , there were photos of Ellsbury and his girlfriend out on the town with Pedroia and Papelbon and their wives , celebrating Pap's birthday. So , I don't think he is quite the bitter loner that some make him out to be.

Absolutely without a doubt it should not have gone to Justin V. MVP belongs to a player who plays almost every day if not every day. Not every 5th start. Sorry. However he deserved Cy young without question, but not MVP. Ells deserved that award.

I think Ells is not going to stick around and I could see him going to the phillies, like Pap. I will be surprised if he matches/exceeds last years performance. He showed the best he can. His agent is Mr. Boras and he will go for the highest bidder. The Sox can get the highest value for him in the trade market. I agree if someone is willing to give away an ace pitcher they should make the move. It would be a great move for the Sox but its not going to happen, because they will sign some left over crap for premium price tag so that we have some more to yap about.

Wowsa! With all that's wrong with this team...you choose Ellsbury as the guy needing to be jettisoned? Hmmm....it's almost looking like a personal grudge at this point hombre. Sure it wouldn't just be easier to say you thought he was a dud, but he turned out to be a stud? Just sayin'.....

Brilliant Teakus, it took you four years to deduce the obvious. Everyone had that figured out long ago. What you somehow refused to realize or comprehend is that Softlaw is toying with everyone here. He is trolling as a contrarian, devil's advocate, pot stirrer, and pr-ick. He totally enjoys inciting everyone here. He laughs at all of you who take him seriously. Isn't it obvious? Why waste your time even reading his posts or responding to them?

Just think; in an alternate universe somewhere, Verlander is on the Red Sox, made the playoffs as a result, and Ellsbury is on the Tigers. Ellsbury wins the MVP, and this thread claims Verlander got scr-wed because he was a pitcher.

Ellsbury would have won the MVP if the Sox had made the playoffs. However you are never going to get the voters to call someone an MVP after that kind of collapse, even though it was not Ells' fault (aside from an unfortunately very important drop/non-catch that figured prominently in the outcome of it all). Verlander earned it for lack of a better option.

Re: SORRY MR. SOFTLAW, JACOBY GOT THE OLD PHILLIPS HEAD ON THE M V P........

Verlander had a terrific year, no doubt, but he was involved in a maximum 31 games. Jacoby was involved in many more games and played a great part in most of  the Sox wins.
If the Tigers had not used Verlander on all of those 31 possibilities, they would have won the percentage that they won when he did play, which still would have put the in the play off. If the Red sox did not have Jacoby in 2011 they would have never been in contention.
Verlander won the Cy Young as a pitcher and Jacoby did not qualify.
Verlander won the MVP and should not have qualified. A vote against Jacoby was a vote against the press reports the Sox have earned since the end of their season
