Great - another opportunity for Theo to ream us. We don't need a trade - bring up Lin or Linares until Crawford is back. Crawford gets paid enough to give CF a shot. -

Great Theo is going to stick it to Young Ben again, great move. Theo screwed us with Carter a pitcher who needs surgey and now an outfielder who cannot hit. This guy should fit in great with Saltalamachia and whoever he gets hitting instruction from. Unless this deal includes a Garza as a starting pitcher, forget it, just write the year off. Theo must have pictures of Ben or something and thats why we keep dealing with this clown. Come on Ben wise up already ! -

Who are those players??? Marlon Byrd is a solid proffesional. If anything we could use more players like him ( even though he's had a terrible start at the plate) He hustles and plays the game with heart. -

This just smacks of desperation. Byrd is just another run-of-the mill veteran player. I guess we are collecting them. This just gets worse and worse. -

Maybe Bowden for Byrd? What ever happened with him after the DFA? I'm not a fan of this move. I wonder if Crawford is going to be out longer than they are saying. -

we drilled him in the face last year and he missed half of the season -

Run of the mill??? Byrd was an all-star in 2010. Obviously hes had trouble at the plate to start the year but DAMN if we can get the cubs to pay most of the 6.5 mil remaining on his contract and give up a low level prospect at most that is a really really solid addition to this team. -

He is 3 for 43, the Cubs want to get rid of him so they can bring up Brett Jackson and he's making about $6M this year.Unless the Cubs paid his entire salary, why would the Red Sox take him? I have partial season tix to Cubs, have seen him 4 times this year and he can't hit a ball on a tee. -

Posted by Bill-806He is a 278 career hitter. You could look at a sample size of over 3700 at bats or the last 43.What do people expect? He's just a guy to play for a few months until Ells and Craw are healthy. -

Getting Marlon Byrd is like buying a bandaid to treat a gunshot wound. -

Exactly...he'll likely cost almost nothing monetarily and maybe a PTBNL which will depend on his performance. There isn't much else out there at this time of year. -

Posted by hankwilliamsjrWell yeah. that's exactly what he is. The Red Sox have suffered a multitude of injuries in their OF and because of this have to get someone who is barely adequate because it would make no sense to make a major move when they are waiting for Craw, Ells and Kalish to get healthy.Anyone with any intelligence would know this. -

Part of the problem is that Linares just got hurt also. Unbelieveable. What the heck. Bring up Bradley and throw him out there. At least he's entertaining! I know he's in A ball but he probably is a better bet than Byrd at this point!Lin probably never hits acceptably at the mlb level.Never happen but I'm looking for any reason to watch this team at this point. -

Remember when people used to talk about Daniel Nava?He is buried now, the Red Sox obviously have no belief in him at all.
