    Red Sox Claim Sandy Rosario

The Red Sox claimed right-hander Sandy Rosario off of waivers from the Marlins, according to Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald (on Twitter).

Rosario, 27, appeared in four games with the Marlins this past season. He spent most of the year in the minor leagues, where he posted a 1.99 ERA with 8.2 K/9 and 1.4 BB/9 in 31 2/3 innings. Though he started two games, Rosario was mostly used in relief.

WEEI.com's Alex Speier confirmed that Rosario has one minor league option remaining, meaning the Red Sox can send him to Triple-A next season without having to pass him through waivers.

Never heard of this guy, but a sub 2.0 ERA in triple A is good enough to give him a look.

The Sox never have enough pitching guys to pick from.  Signing six or seven guys like this may yield one guy who may make a positive difference next year.

Off the top of my head, there's Sandy Alomar Sr., Sandy Alomar Jr., Sandy Koufax, Sandy Amoros in baseball. There's Sandy Lyle in golf.

Rosario has some good stuff that needs a little refining to be consistent. At 27 though, he will need to show his "stuff" can translate to MLB this year.

At least it gets Che Hsuan Lin off the 40 man roster.

Lin is an outfielder who can't hit and Rosario is a RP who seems to be able to get people out.

Just making room on the 40 man roster for Arod.
