    Good for Anderson hopefully.

Harden can *maybe* pitch a couple games for the Sox before the year is up.

Good deal. Lars was going nowhere and if Harden can stay off the DL he should be money.

Kudos to Theo and company.  This is a very smart move.  High reward with no risk.  Anderson was never going to contribute to the big club.  Harden has nasty stuff when healthy.  He is certainly an upgrade over Miller.  Now if they can land a Breslow type lefty reliever for someone like Bowden, and get a RH bat to take the place of McDonald without giving up Lavarnway, Middlebrooks, Iglesias or Ranaudo.

I said in April Anderson needed to be traded his position will be blocked here for a long time no need for a 1st base prospect. I'm Just wondering but have we got the PTBNL from the Marlins yet?  and i can still see us working out a deal for a right handed bat in the OF or a lefty specialist. Probably would trade Lowrie or Aviles.

Earlier Saturday, the Yankees and Rockies also swapped proposals. However, several reports say New York is balking at Colorado's request for some combination of Ivan Nova, Jesus Montero and Dellin Betances to be included in any deal. An executive of one club said he was told Phil Hughes' name also was discussed by the two teams at one point Saturday, but Colorado doesn't appear to have any interest in making Hughes part of this trade.

We didn't have to give up anyone who had a chance to ever play for us, so no loss there.

Harden has been great at times in his career, but it is a gamble on health. He could just become another of many 5th starters to choose from to fill the 3-4-5 slots. I was hoping we'd get a legitmate 2/3 type starter, but maybe the cost was too high.

The trade sounds good to me. No risk, possible reward.
As I see it the Red Sox fate is going to come down to Beckett and Lester.
Assume the Sox go up against the Phillies in the World Series.
They aren't going to have much of a chance if they are counting on their third and fourth starters anyhow.
I'm somewhat confused as to why they haven't given Felix Doubront a shot.
He looked to me like the most composed and likely starter in the Red Sox farm system in terms of being ready for the big leagues.

I like this move.  As others have said, Lars was blocked from playing here anyway, and Harden can be quite good when healthy.  Not much given up for a potentially very good pitcher.  It gives us some depth, if nothing else.

I like this move, too. Probably the best that can be gotten under the circumstances.

What does it say about Andrew Miller, though?  Does he become middle relief and then we'll see what happens next year?

    I think so.

Re: Sox get Harden for Anderson

not sure this trade really makes much sense. Harden is a good pitcher when he is healthy, but he is hardly ever healthy. He has only made like 5 or 6 starts this year after recently coming off the DL.  If he can stay healthy then this could be a good trade for the sox. Though giving up lars anderson for him was a pretty high price tag in my opinion. I really hope theo has one more deal up his sleave. The 2 trades he has made have not really improved the team that much. It was mentioned that the sox have interest in carlos quentin and matt thornton of the white sox. I think both would be good pick ups but i would not take thorton unless they pay most of his salary next year. He will make $13 mill. Anyone else feel like theo aint done? I feel like he is going to trade for someone nobody expected.

    Career sun 1.300 WHIP.
    More Ks than IP.
Career 3.65 ERA (Yes, park influenced for sure).

He did pitch 20-26 starts for 3 straight years before 2011-not great, but not as bad as Bedard.

Thornton is due to make 5.5mil in 12' and 13' and 6mil in 14 which is an option year with a 1mil buyout..

Nice to get another pitcher. The cost of Lars is really negligible. He had nowhere to go with Adrian here, so it actually gives him, possibly, a better future.
