    Sox Offer Pedroia Extension

10:07pm: The Red Sox made a formal extension offer to Pedroia over the All-Star break, tweets Gordon Edes of ESPNBoston.com. He quotes the source as saying that the "ball is in their court," apparently referring to Pedroia and his advisers. Edes notes that the offer could exceed $100MM, though he bases that figure on the ballpark figures reported earlier by Passan.

I heard from God today.... and she sounded just like me.

I saw the Devil today..... and he looked a lot like me

I looked away.... I TURNED AWAYYY!

I'm on the wrong side of heaven and the righteous side of hell.

Hard to put a number on his worth.

    He's a Boston legend.

He's about the same age as Ellsbury.

    Consistency. (never below .797)

Having his best OBP season, but SLG has dipped for 3 straight years.

    Excellent defense and decent speed.

He's owed $10M next year with a team option for $11M in 2015 ($.5M buyout). Those are steals. He will be 31 when his contract expires.

I would not low-ball Pedroia. He deserves full respect and perhaps some extra for being "underpaid".

I'd offer him $61M/4 with a $7M signing bonus ($4M 2014 and $3M 2015), so basically $17M a year for 4 years, but some pre-paid to make up for the underpay he has recieved for several years. I might go up to $18M a year x 4. Maybe add a team option 5th year at $14M with a $2M Buyout.

Pedey's one of the few guys that when he says, "it's not about the money" may actually mean it.

I suppose I may go to $20M a year, but I think the signing bonus aspect of my offer would be very enticing.
