Sox players lag in All-Star votes

    by Gordon Edes/ESPN:
BOSTON--Major League Baseball announced their first round of results in All-Star balloting, and no Sox player is in the lead at any position.

The closest is DH David Ortiz, who is a little over 28,000 votes behind Michael Young of Texas at DH. Adrian Gonzalez is around 140,000 votes behind Mark Teixeira of the Yankees at first base, Dustin Pedroia is almost 600,000 votes behind Robinson Cano at second, Kevin Youkilis is more than 450,000 votes behind Alex Rodriguez at third, and Jacoby Ellsbury is more than 250,000 votes behind Josh Hamilton of Texas in the balloting for outfield, with Hamilton ranked third behind Jose Bautista and Curtis Granderson.

Six Yankees lead at their respective positions, including shortstop Derek Jeter.

hey FB, over the past few years it's usually been in the middle where people have made their surges in the voting, i think last season that was about the point where Cano took over the lead at 2B, admittedly there have been a few guys go wire to wire...most times it's been the overall leading vote-getter, but should either pick up their play, DP and Youk will likely close their gaps..maybe it's the NL thing, but i gotta say, no disrespect to Tex, but i thought AG would be dusting the field...

Why isn't the already elite MLB SS, Jed Lowrie, leading the vote? Surely the All-Star manager will pick Jed......................

I don't think anyone called Hall more than a UIF'er. However, you did call Lowrie an elite MLB SS. Cue the Lowrie belly flop on a routine DP ball, or the drop on a soft pop up and the throw over the catchers head, two errros on one play.

No elite MLB SS is a butcher at the position, hands and feet of stone, and hits RHP like a UIF'er.

Should have trade Lowrie when few knew how bad he was on the field and against RHP. Too late, now, will have to keep as a UIF'er/Starting elite MLB SS or throw him in with a bag balls for increased trade value.

except for a-gon, ortiz, and beckett, no one on the SOX deserves to be in the all-star game.
LACKEY could be selected to throw for home-run derby.

Slackey is perfect for the homerun derby! Well, either he or Tim Wastefield.

AGon deserves the first base spot. Ells is borderline, so far. Youk and Pedey really have not done enough to be considered. The question is always; is it just this year's performance to date or do past seasons factor in?

With all the talk on how "Tired" everybody is I think the rest will do them more good in the second half... Without any of our 15 prior Allstars on the team We may just have to start the World Series on the Road but what the heck !!

I don't care if any Red Sox players make the AS team, as long as the AL wins, so our Red Sox have home field advantage in the World Series.  I prefer our guys get the added rest anyway.

Earlier this week there were two articles one on WEEI.com and one in Herald one compared Ellsbury to his peers in CF and one to other leadoff hitters. After read that is clear to me Ellsbury is an All-Star this year. Papi, Beckett, Gonzalez, and maybe Papelbon.

no matter who wins the AS game, the players on BOSTON  will definitely be home during the WS.

Did't agon claim he wouldn't play in the AS game in AZ because of their stance on illegal immigrants?

The only thing Granderson does better than Ellsbury is HR. He has less hits, a lower average, more K's, and a lower OBP.

OPS .960 for Granderson! Light years ahead on offense and defense.

You need to call Bellsbury and get a room with him, BlowJoe.

Joe it could become serious?  Maybe the porous border is a bit more important ...  a bit more serious than say a boycott of some fool players at a MLB all*star game.

The OPS is solely do to HR's. It is very impressive that every other category he trails Ellsbury beside OPS yet he is going crazy in HR.

Without turning this into a political thing, you don't think if players don't go AZ it would highlight what people don't like about that law?
