    Spaceman,
I believe some of these whiners were on last year complaining about the Sox picking up Mr. Aceves. That turned out pretty well for the front office.

The irony is that there is still so much derisive criticism of the Yankees' brand of business.

Soxy - The core issue is not how much money the Sox spend, but how much they spend vis a vis the luxury tax cap.  I believe minor league contracts do not count against it.

If you mean "good point" in the "bad point" sense of "good point", then I agree, it's a good point.  But you don't mean "good point" in the "bad point" sense of "good point", you mean "good point" in the "good point" sense of "good point"....but you're wrong, it's a bad point.

The Sox seem to be trying to stay under this year's luxury tax ceiling, so spending money on minor league players, groundskeepers and caviar are not relevant.  What's relevant is resetting the luxury tax clock so they will have more flexibility next year and beyond to breach the cap without adding 40-50% to the cost of, say, Cole Hamels.

We are acting like we are paupers and picking up all this injured projects that will never amount to anything, remember Smoltz, Penny, Boof Bonser, Baldelli. Enough with all these projects, you get what you pay for here.

Union Boss Beckett needs to go into rehab for thinking beer is alright for an alcoholic who falls down and hurts his ankle while soaking fans for over 16 million a year.

Happy New Year, AL. More often than not, but there's always the chance were getting one or more at the right time. With the limited payroll and 2012 class of FA, do the best they can with what they have.

YES!  Great idea!!  We should sign all the best SP pitchers available - Kuroda, Oswalt, etc. - to minor league contracts.  That way we won't exceed the luxury tax ceiling but will have acquired top talent cheaply.  Why hasn't Ben Cherry thought about that yet??!!??!!  The fool!

Oops, wait a mo, that's really stupid of me....the Sox appear to have no budget to sign such players so that will not happen unless the Sox bust the $178m limit.  Do'h, sorry.

Seriously, I will be appalled - and far more surprised - if the Sox bust that level by a mere 1, 2, 5 %....  No chance, forget it.  And good for them, that makes no sense....as a team I want them to balance the short- with the medium-term....but they're not just a "team", they are a giant, multi-million dollar corporation.  And they will NOT pay salaries of 178.00001m/179m/186m/maybe even 196m this year.  Rage against the dying light to your heart's conten, Algernon, it's not on the cards.

But, of course, the people running the multi-million dollar Red Sox arm of the multi-billion dollar Fenway Sports empire aren't as intelligent, educated and informed as those of us posting anonymously on the web so what do we know?
