You really think two draft piks, a mid level AAA prospect and a AAAA OFer having a bad year would pry the Cy Young winner from Seattle.

Maybe if we throw in Lars Anderson they'll give us League in the package.

Be really great to get a front-line SP like Jimenez or Hernandez, but it would be very hard to part with the guys we'd have to surrender to get one of them, and it would take considerably more to get one of them than the OP suggests here, way way more.

Jiminez is way overrated, I would love to see the Sox go after him to see what he could do in the American League.  That won't happen though Theo is too smart to go after him.

Not to mention Ring was cut by Seattle (well Tacoma actually), which is how the Sox got him.

I think that's too much; a couple of used bats should get it done.

    southpaw,

Weren't the Sox completely rebuffed the last time they gave the Mariners carte blanche for prospects?  Give Theo credit for trying though.  I'd agree, the conversation starts there with the top 4, but there would be other suitors for sure with better farm systems if not the financial wherewithal that the Sox enjoy, whcih means they could actually pay him like a king and fork over the farm.

Cleverly phrased, and I agree, if Felix was offered up, Cashman would Steinbrenner's right arm to get him.

That did not work two years ago when Felix Hernandez was worth far less because at the time the righthander remained under his team's control for only one year and two months:

Hey Jim, think about what you suggested.  Felix is one of the best young pitchers in the game.  Even if he was available we would need to give up a great deal more for him.  The four guys you listed have very little trade value.

The guy is under control for 3 more years.  he is not getting traded.  It would send a horrible message to the fanbase.

The best way to judge a trade is to turn it around. If the Sox had Felix and Seattle offered the p o o p o o platter of Haeger, Ring, McDonald & Bowden, would Theo wait more than a second before laughing in their faces? The Sox don't have nearly enough to pry Felix away from Seattle.

Seattle would laugh at that package. It is not even close.
