Stacked lineup? They scored one run last night, and other than one game have been awful the entire post season. If you want to blame someone, blame the Red Sox hitters. They took too many good pitches and swung at too many balls. Not Red Sox baseball.

our 3-5 hitters would be batting 6-8 on this team....just saying

Ortiz had a much better year then Fielder or Martinez. Much.

Just Geo being Geo.  Miggy is a beast, but Fielder and VMart are at .819 & .785.  Papi and Napoli are at .959 and .842.  I assume Geo hasn't looked at stats in a few years, and remembers those two names from 2-3 years ago.

If those guys played in Fenway....face it we play in a bandbox where career years are always made...would anyone not swap our 3-5 hitters for theirs?

OK, the series are all fixed and your source is a wiseguy.  Got it.

Geo's take is correct, other than the sweep, and he is a poster I always read because he isn't a cheerleader poster.

As I posted before the series started, the problem is Ortiz and Napoli vs. Miggy and Fielder. Look into the numbers more carefully as reflected in the recent history of the two teams, and understand how AL offensive capabibility against the better pitching works. I did the breakdown on another thread. Study it.

I just don't understand why you'd put this much effort into figuring things out when you have a "source".  Why bother?

Oh wait.. I know. It's because you enjoy doing it.  <Smirk>

You're a joke and a troll and nobody takes you seriously.  You've now trolled so much that even when you post something sensible nobody knows whether you're serious or trolling.  In short, you have no credibility.

Here's what we already knew:  The Tigers have three outstanding pitchers -when they're on.  Last night Sanchez brought his A++ game and if Scherzer does it today it could be another long evening.  By the same token, if Buch brings his A++ game it could be a long evening for the Tigers.

What will happen will happen, but I refuse to get down on the Red Sox hitters just because they ran up against a superior pitcher last night.  Nobody would have hit Sanchez with the stuff he brought.  And if the same thing happens tonight I'll be saying the same thing tomorrow.  This team can hit, it's just that the old axiom is true that good pitching beats good hitting.

Our line-up is not the only thing balanced about our offense, we also di pretty well vs LH'd starters, and spread our runs out over the games more often this year (less blowouts and more 5-8 runs scored games). Our mean runs scored was 5 this year.

One game should never tell the whole story.

I would feel a lot better.

Of course you would, but I specifically didn't ask my source the  winner of this series because I want to be entertained by the ALCS.

There you have it folks.  Fireman has a source who knows the winner of every series.  Maybe Fireman's source is a guy who is visiting us from the future.

There is medication available for people who hear voices in their head and call them "sources". Its one thing for someone to state their opinion about who will win this series; its quite another to claim that their opinion is a fact and to attribute that "fact" to "sources". Medical specialists are available to such individuals.

The problem is not Ortiz and Napoli vs Miggy and Fielder. The problem for us in this series is the excellent top three SP on the Detroit Tigers vs our good top three. Miggy and Fielder did not beat us last night; Sanchez did, along with a bloop hit by Perralta. Its going to be a very tough series; we all knew that going into it. For my part, I think that if we can win tonight we still have a good chance to win the series. Lose tonight and its over.

No. After we spent all that money on Dempster and Drew, I said I'd rather have spent big on just one big named FA in last year's class: Anibal Sanchez.

I was told that  Detroit was his only choice.

If you want to cull out the HFA, Papi is at .990 and Napoli is at .866.

Fielder is at .797 and VMart is at .750.

So that discrepancy is twice as big as the original discrepancy.  Is that the direction you want to go?

Come on man the Sox are in the ALCS and we're still drooling over guys that play for other teams...

Speaking of Sanchez, as I recall you weren't the only one that wanted to pay him mad moneys you were among a large group to include Moon who snuff his praises all winter long ..the problem is that Sanchez never gave the sox or any other team the opportunity to even make him an offer...instead chose to resign with the Tigers a team that had just lost in the World Series and looked to be a serious contender entering this season.

I get that Dempster didn't exactly light it up this year however the Sox were 18 and 14 in games started by Dempster, which is .560 winning pct from your 5th starter.

Regular season doesn't matter at this point and I am sure you know this. Both teams are in a position to win the penant. These are the best pitchers that the Al has, we are about to see how the best hitters stack up against them.  Game one goes to the pitchers.

I was responding the point that Ortiz would bat 6th if he were on Detroit. I am sure you know this is not true.

    You don't pay over $13M for a number 5.

The point about Sanchez was that for just a little more money you get a near number 1 profile instead of a number 5.

I get the argument about him wanting to play for only the Tigers, but there was no reports that the Sox even tried. What's to lose? Even if we just drove up the price for the Tigers, that would accomplish something.

That's not quite right.  There are a wide range of Softlaws out there.

There is the one that still posts about some guy that retired years ago.

There is the one that started 100 or so threads about not re-signing Ellsbury.  I think not re-signing him is a no-brainer.  Take the pick, start the next generation CF, and spend the money elsewhere.  But my opinion is known.  There is really no reason to repeat it 100s of times.

Then, occasionally, the insightful Softlaw comes out.  There is another poster on here like that.  I think he's likeable and very smart, just not very insightful.  So, contrary to how he feels, I do not disdain him.  I just disdain his BB opinions.

In your case, I don't have disdain for you, just disdain for the Wakefield posts, and the last 199 Ellsbury posts, even though I agree with the first.
