    Sport's Illustrated

S.I.'s baseball preview issue is out. They pick the Sox to finish second in the A.L. East. Win the wild card game, but lose to the Rays in the ALDS. They pick the Washington Nats to win it all.  Unlike me, they are seldom correct in their predictions, I might add.

    Re: Sport's Illustrated

I read that yesterday at work and I could't beleive the predictions they were making. The A's and Nationals in the World Series?....I highly doubt that. Red Sox have the best overall team in the AL and a farm system to help fil gaps or make a trade, whichever is needed to get us back to the big game.

In the NL I see Dodgers and Cardinals again battling for a shot at the WS and the Red Sox and Rays doing the same in the AL.

Sox finish second and lose to the Rays in the ALDS? LOL

And the Nationals better hope they win sometime in the near future as they sabotaged their best chance at a championship. Something has to justify that decision.

I've always considered that most "previews" are created using a dartboard.  I've also always felt SI (among others- "Hello BR!") might be throwing their darts blindfolded.  Don't pay attention to those things.

Btw, I saw on another thread that the Yankees will be playing the Astros and the Blue Jays starting the season. Is that just an extra extension of spring training for them? Sure seems that way.

And they also get the Mets every year for a "subway series" LOL. That also works out well for them. Who wouldn't want to play the Mets every year?

    Here ya go, youk

The SI website is loaded with 'swimsuit coverage' year round now.  The site is set up to attract sports fans and soft core porn fans alike.

Nobody except me predicted that Sox would win it all 2013 season.  Most of the media thought Sox would finish 4th or dead last.  They really suck at predicting except for the obvious.

FTR the Yankees get that Mets series every year (must be a Yankee rule or something). Sometimes winning the division comes down to ONE game. Should the Yankees be given the Mets every year considering how easy it is for them to beat them? And also get the Astros? That pretty much says they're six games up this season without even having to bother showing up.

No wonder why it's so close at the end of the season.

If you actually followed baseball you would know that the sox play the astros 7 times this year.

Must be a Boston rules thing.

Did you just create an account to say that to me? It's your first post. I have a very short list of who you can be seeing as it's obviously written by a Yankee fan.

FTR Until the Red Sox get a deal where they play the Astros every season like the Yankees get the Mets every season it doesn't count. Especially, when the Yankees ALSO play the Astros. So funny how their season starts with them being....KING OF THE WORLD. LOL

Hey, maybe it's to show how "great" Tanaka is and what a great investment that was for them.

so you want to play an AL team in interleague LOL

R U really so intellectually dishonest that U can't understand why ny plays ny every yr

it's not about who U play

it's about when U play them

playing the astros to open the season is not all good

they don't even  know how bad they R yet

Just like Sports illustrated I'm often wrong in my predictions....actually i think most people are often wrong in their predictions; though I think we tend to have a biased memory.

I want to be bold and say that this is the Orioles year.

Uh, you do realize that the sox get philly every year and they finished behind the mets last year?

Yes. And the Philies are a much better bet than the Mets. LOL Again. A screenname just for me personally as this is your 2nd post. Sorry you don't get the reconition you deserve.

All of the major sports have their headquarters in N.Y.  I do notice that some things are done to favor the New York teams. Not saying it is bias. They feel that it is good business to have successful franchises in The Big Apple. Obviously, it doesn't always work out.

Most of the NY sports teams stink though.

    Re: Sport's Illustrated

No one, absolutely no one, can be sure of what is going to happen in the AL East.

And to me that is the great thing about this season because the Sox for now are definitely in the hunt.  Good pitching and hopefully good hitting.  Potentially a reborn centerfielder.  Potentially an all-star at SS.  Or not.  I'm not a big fan of the beards, but that's no big deal.

When I was on active duty, I was taught to learn, if possible master the enemy's tactics, personnel, equipment, objectives,  etc.   So this year I get to keep track of at least three other teams--Rays, Orioles, and Yankees--as well as the Sox.  Plus I live within range of the Orioles TV and radio and happen to think their radio announcers are pretty good.

I hated losing Ellsbury, but got used to the idea long ago, especially after the 2010 season when his teammates were not exactly supportive.  Plus Boras as his agent.  So making up for Ellsbury's offense and defense is an interesting story all in itself.

Next up, the Orioles in Baltimore for 3 big ones:  Lester then Lackey then Doubront.  Sizemore likely leading off in CF.  Bogaerts at SS.  Middlebrooks back at 3B and hopefully swinging a good bat.  Ortiz likely in another of his famous early season slumps (which he didn't really have last year).  Holy mackerel, Andy!

Last year they picked the Nats to win it all.  Now again this year???  Also Toronto, Angels, Rangers and Cincy were all picked to make into the playoff last year, but  didnt make it at the end of the season.

So sounded like most of the times, they are half wrong.  Feel bad for the Nats to keep getting jinxed!!

As FanGraphs columnist Dave Cameron wrote in that site's staff predictions: "Predicting baseball is silly. Everyone is terrible at it, including us. But as long as you know that going in, it’s still kind of a fun exercise."
