    State of the Bullpen?

How are people feeling right about the pen right now?  I'm pretty comfortable with Paps, Bard and Albers.  But given where Jenks and Wheeler are, is that enough?  Oki's done a lot for this team in the past but even if has solved some of his worst problems I don't see his K's getting back to where they were.  Personally, I'd like to see Hill and Aceves in Boston instead of Pawtucket.  As things currently stand, I think we will have too much wear and tear on the key guys ... unless our starters keep going 7-8 innnings of course. [Who would have guessed in mid-April ago that our SP would now have an ERA of 3.6 - 3.7]

Bullpen is shaky.  I agree that Oki ain't gonna be '07 oki doke good again, but, given the options until Young can fix Jenks' ugly mechanics, I'd rather see Oki in the 7th role.

Hard to say.  Francona says Jenks and Wheeler will be fine, but their ERA's are both over 9.  Bard's is almost double what it was last year, and Papelbon's is now over 3 (but Peter Abraham provided a good excuse for last night--no save and a 6 run lead might have taken the edge off Pap's pitching).  Albers could be good and certainly has been so far.  Wake is a specialist.  And Okajima still scares me.  He loves that 87/88 fastball too much and won't use his pretty good breaking ball pitches.

Jenks studied video after his last blowup and found the flaw in his mechanics. How often has Wheeler pitched? Is this more false concern? Don't we have enough trolls already?

Agree that Oki doesn't look THAT bad but choosing between him and Jenks right now is kinda like choosing between bullpiss and Schaeffer.  Give me Aceves and/or Hill please.  And what about Atch ... is he still stuck in Pawtucket???

I'm not too worried about Bard but future events might make a fool of me.

Overall, I'd rate our BP about the same as the U.S. 2010 economy ... better but still pretty worrisome.  I take some comfort in knowing that we have about a dozen options just an hour south on 95.

haha.  I'll take bullpiss thank you.  No seriously, I hear you in that analogy.  But, despite some nice ST shine, I have no confidence that Aceves or Hill could get it done either.  I would like to see both of them up very soon and see what they can do.  but as far as being the seventh-inning guy, its bullpiss or Shaeffer or PBR on a good day.

Jeez, man.  I am not trashing anyone ... just discussing current affairs.  I figured anyone would think it worthwhile to look at where our pen is at.

FWIW, Wheeler has 10 appearances and 10 IP.  His BB:K is 0:8 which is nice but his BAA of .356 .... meh, not so much.  I'm not suggesting we throw in the towel, but I think Tito's probably not too comfortable with that right now if he has to make a switch with RISP.

Today's roster moves make me happy.  State of the pen has improved IMO.  Will improve more if Jenks finds himself during his time off.  One can only hope.

the only place jenks will find himself is in front of his refrigerator.

Jenks and Wheeler look awful. Can't they screw with their mechanics in Pawtucket?
