I'm not knocking Papi he hit it pretty well. I am looking forward to seeing AGon do the same. I look at the homerun tracker site and I was surprised that a few homers I thought were pretty deep in left center were homers almost nowhere else. Mind you it might have been the wind that the sight also takes into account.

Why where was the ball hit? Game center said deep left center and it's pretty deep out there.

Wake had only thrown 70 something pitches. Granted , he has not been starting lately but he was not really showing any signs of tiring. And , if you are going to the pen , why Jenks of all people. The guy has been horrible. Very strange thinking by Tito. This team is in such a rut. They keep finding new ways to lose. -

DUMB. Why take Wakefield out when he only needed one out? Think he would have given up a hit and walked three before he got that third out? Me either. -

Tito has little feel for pitchers. Why remove Wakefield for Jenks? -

This team is loaded with talent, but it continues to underperform.
The Francona era has run its course. His patience and ego management skills may have been valuable when we had a team filled with guys like Pedro, Schilling, Lowe, Manny, Damon etc. I do appreciate that he "managed" us to our two titles, but I have always felt his game management decisions have been a liability.
His current lethargy is costing this team games. You can not fire the whole team. Sooner or later, you need to make a change.
Now let's wait for the aopologists to come out and tell me that Francona "knows his team", blah, blah, blah. Using their logic, no manager ever gets replaced. -

I think we have to remember here that a lot of posters seem to think Francona should magically be able to pull starters BEFORE they give up any runs...if Wakefield had given up a couple more hits and run(s) resulted, the same people would be screaming and demanding to know why Tito didn't pull him.I think Wake could have been left in for one more out too, but I also don't think the 20-20 hindsight whiners have much room to complain. If there's anything less than a perfect result in any situation, they'll find a way to blame Francona for it. -

My guess is Lloyd, he wanted to get Jenks back out there after the last disaster, but after he walked in the first run, give him the hook. bring aceves up, jenks needs to go down and work on whatever the problem is -

Posted by LloydDoblerI agree. I am curious to know why he pulled Wake instead of letting him finish the inning. I agree with having him on a short leash so if he gave up another hit, pull him.And he should have had Jenks on a shorter leash considering how he's been pitching. -

I watched a spring training game this year in which Jenks could not get anyone out and blew a big lead to a bunch of Twins minor leaguers. I could see right then that there was a problem . All Remy and Orsillo did was laugh and joke about losing the coveted " Mayor's Trophy ." Not one word about how sloppy and out of shape Jenks was. Sure enough, he has continued to stink it up in the regular season. -

After finally gaining a little momentum, the team is at risk of dropping 5 of 6 to the likes of Baltimore and Seattle. You're facing one of the top pitchers in the league and have a small lead. Sounds like the perfect time to put in a guy that has been horrible in 4 of his last 6 appearances. Better yet, don't have anyone getting ready just in case. Instead let him walk in two runs while you sit and spit.
This is not an issue of fan hindsight, its a situation where the manager has no foresight. -

Well, he is the manager. The buck has to stop with him. You have to really stretch it to defend his moves in that inning. -

Wakefield, once again, comes through in what has to be a very difficult situation... resigned to mop up duty and emergency starts... tough to be ready under those conditions... can't ask for much more than what he gave today.... too bad that Jenks can't seem to get anybody out at the moment.
