And that, friends, qualifies Wake for a quality start.  I know you are against his being the 5th starter (rather than Aceves), dgalehouse, but it's hard to argue with results like this one.
In Response to Re: Sunday's Game thread:Mariners at Red Sox : Which is strange Joel, because remember earlier how people were saying he should always be benched against right handers because he couldn't hit from the left side? Seems to me he's come along in a lot of different areas.

I thought it was the other way around, that he should bat vs righties and Varitek vs lefties.  His career splits show he hits righties better - just checked.

You know, I really like Adrian Gonzalez, but is he ever going to do more than ground singles into center? Not that I'm complaining, understand, but I'd like to see more power. KnowwhatImean vern?

Looks like that little slump A-Gon had after the all-star break has gone away.

I don't know about the career splits, but do distinctly remember a lot of people in this forum saying that he should never be allowed to bat left handed--for whatever that's worth.

I hear ya, exam.  Seems like it's been a while since he's stroked a few extra base hits.  If I recall correctly, the other night he went four for four, all singles with nobody on base (although I think he came up with two outs each time).  I know I'll feel a whole lot better when he starts banging some balls off of the monster again.  And to reiterate what you said, not that I'm complaining.

Thats what is great about him, he might not hit 40+ homers this year but he will give you one of the best avg. in the league and doesn't need to rely on homers to pad his rbi numbers. He hits the pitches he is given and he does it often, he's not up there looking to drive the ball every single time. The power will be there, I know I saw the potential during the HR durby this year.

    Posted by dgalehouse
stop ragging on him.. he's by far the BEST 5th starter in baseball, all u would want. 3 of 5 quality starts every five time out, giving u a shot to win. wake will get bombed once and just mediocre in the other. thats great for your fifth guy. with wake, u can be sure if he's bombed as he was last time out, he will give u a good outing the next time out. we should give him a 2 year extension if he stays healthy! his ERA should remain just under 5.
