Swihart completes FG Top 25 prospect list

Red Sox catching prospect Blake Swihart came in at No. 25 on FanGraphs' midseason Top 25 prospect list:

On BA's mid season top 50 Swihart ranked 14th and Owens ranked 15th; Betts would have been 12th.

Also Fangraphs are the first people out there to put Bryant ahead of Buxton, which may partially be due to Buxton not being able to show anything this year.  Still both great prospects.

Swihart is no the top consensus catching prospect in all of the minors.

    John Sickels top 75.

    Mookie Betts #9

    Henry Owens #17

    Blake Swihart #23

    3 in the top 25.

Also in reference to the OP, Mookie Betts would have ranked #3 if he was still in the minors on Marc Hulets list.

Did the Cubs 2014 1st round pick Kyle Schwarber make the list?

Might have to agree with them, hope not picking Alex Jackson wont haunt them. Many Scouts had him rated best all around hitter in the Draft. He's hitting .322 in the Mariners Rookie League. Only 18 years old.

Ross should be gone regardless of his experience as soon as Vasquez gets comfortable with the staff,  A Vasquez and Swihart combo should be better than Tek/Salty, Salty/Ross and AJ/Ross in a year or two.

I don't think you'll ever see a Vasquez/Swihart platoon in Boston, unless one of them seriously regresses or it's late in the season and it's a situation where they bring up Swihart to get his feet wet.  Both of these guys are going to want an opportunity to play full time, so unless Swihart moves to a different position or one of them is traded, that's obviously not going to happen playing on the same team.

I disagree and feel Swihart and Vasquez can co-exist behind the plate until we find another position for one of them.  Both will have the talent in my opinion to stick around or get us a nice return if eventually gets one packaged.

Yeah, but a good catcher will catch 130+ games.  If both of these guys are capable of 130+, then one of them almost has to get traded.

Vasquez is arguably one of the top 5 defensive catchers in the world already.  He's not changing positions.  I mentioned that there was a "possibility" that Swihart could change positions, and if not, one of them will be moved.  I also mentioned that they could possibly co-exist for a half of a season if Swihart gets a call up late in the year.  I'm not sure what your "disagreeing" with here, other than maybe that you think that there's a possibility of both of these guys starting the season as a platoon at some point during the next couple of years, which isn't happening.

Exactly, Joe.  You have one kid in Vasquez who could start right now for more than half of the teams in baseball and another kid who is the consensus best catching prospect in baseball.  There won't be a platoon anytime soon.

We will be lucky as heck if both Vasquez and Swihart are good enough to be a platoon. I'm very high on Swihart in particular but I don't think either of these guys are going to be so good we move them off the catcher position.

I doubt Swihart gets moved off of the catcher position (zero chance with Vasquez) as well, but you aren't ever going to see a "platoon" with these two, again, unless it's for half of a season.

Lefthander Henry Owens just missed making the list.

IN THE WHOLE WORLD???? WOW!!!  Seriously.....please hold back just a bit.  It's a big world kiddo....

Defensively?  Right now?  Name 5 better.  Yadier Molina and who?  Go!
