    Swisher to Sox?

I'm reading a lot about Nick Swisher-to-BOS rumors. The NY Post says that the Sox are very interested, and I've even read an article that stated that we were 'zeroing in' on him. Though, I'm not sure that the website was very reliable. Thoughts?

Swisher would bring a lot of versatility to the team, just not the stability in any of their big need areas that I prefer.  So, I personally do not want to see the money spent there.

Ben is "interested" in everyone, so I kind of ignore those rumors.

I hope not, he's not worth the money he's getting. His power numbers are inflated by the little league ball park he plays in.

Since joining the Yankees, Swisher has hit 13 more HRs on the road than at home.   But I'm with you and it's not really an upgrade if you have Gomes, Ells, and Swisher in the OF.  I'm starting to wonder what Ben is doing.  According to Ben, filling the OF spots, having large payroll, contending year mean something like Hamilton, Ells, and Upton in the OF.

Gomes will be a platoon OF'er. He murders LHP and has a swing made for Fenway. He'll have his share of K's, but hes got an OBP north of .400 vs LHP...Maybe Nava/Kalish from the left side.

I wouldn't overpay Swish even without the lost draft pick.

Me either Moon. Swish is looking for way too much in years and $$$

The "add your post" button tends to be a little quirky ive noticed. Happened to me yesterday when I tried to edit a post and it ended up posting nothing...

Could be Swisher in playing up the Sox is trying to get the Yankees in the game.

Doubt they bite. Too many absent at bats in October.

It's been a nice run for Nick, wouldn't hurt you in lf but I can see an adventure in the making with Swish playing that rf corner in Fenway.

    that's a wow my friend

I have no idea what the odds are that a 2nd round draft pick

turns out to be better than swish

    but me personally

will take the bird in hand that will help my team today

vs maybe someday in a few yrs.......................every time

I knew you had that 'I luv all prospects disease'

but I didn't know you had it that bad ;-)

hey zac, happy turkey day to you...so tell me, do you want the Yankees to re-sign Swish, or what?

I wouldn't mind him coming to the Sox but not in a long-term deal...two years @ around $15 million per would be the offer. Who cares about the lost draft pick.

    Happy thanks giving zac...

I should rephrease that. For the years and $$ he wants, Ill keep the pick...Besides a pick in the 30's should get you something decent. Henry owens has looked pretty good so far and jackie Bradley Jr. was #40.

We have #7 pick. So after the comp round we should be picking around #40

That and RF in Boston would be an adventure, to say the least, with Swish out there...

2 @ 15 is "where his fit and value ends" .  I think some idiot GM will give him 4/60.  Let him.

Two years - $15mill?  So you think Swisher should be paid less than Melky Cabrera and Jeremy Guthrie?

crowdedsource.com projected the contracts of all the top free agents, with Swisher receiving 4 years $56mill.  Fangraphs' Dave Cameron wrote a piece analyzing their projected deals and decided that this deal was by far the best one of all the projections.  Even better to give Swisher 4 years $56mill than it would be to give Anabal Sanchez 4 years $52mill, apparently.

Cameron did say he thought the majority of the deals were a little light, although they were spot on with #6 Melky Cabrera (2 years $16mill).

(They have Ortiz' contract figures correct as well, but only because the article publsihed after he signed.)

    you can read it here

    http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/the-25-best-and-five-worst-free-agent-values/

Were I to predict, I would expect Swisher to get the same contract that JD Drew received - 5 years / $70mill.

Which deal would you give out if you were the GM and wanted to drop some of your "savings"   from your yard sale trade on a high profile free agent in order to appease your rabid fanbase, especially the ones who are sickof hearing about the farm system?

    A.  Josh Hamilton at 7 years $145mill

    B. Anabal Sanchez at 6 years $90mill

    C. Zack Greinke at 6 years $115mill

    D. Nick Swisher at 5 years $70mill

I wouldn't do any of these, but if the Sox had to choose one, I'd go with A Sanchez with Greinke close behind. A Sanchez at $54M/4 might be more like it.

If I am Sox GM I am not going to get Caught up in the fans impatience to commit to long-term deals for any of these players...alternatively, my offers to selected players would be something along the lines of:

    A.  Josh Hamilton at 7 years $145mill - PASS

     B. Anibel Sanchez at 4 years $60mill

     C. Zack Greinke at 6 years $115mill - PASS

     D. Nick Swisher at 2 years $30mill

If that doesn't work, then move on to other players. It appears the real Sox GM is willing to overpay players on shorter term deals and that is a strategy I can live with.

I dont mind a 3 year deal for Swisher, but not 5. something like a 3/40 deal. maybe even 2 years with a 3rd option for more base.
