Re: Terry's obsession with McD is frustrating:
DMac had an .812 OPS vs LHPs last season. Don't "gloss over" that either. The problem is, we need 2 RH'd bats in the OF: one for CC and the other for Reddick. Since Tito will never bench CC vs most lefties, DMac is probably all we will have until Sept call ups or beyond.

I'm not overlooking last season. Unfortunately the game of baseball is about what a player is doing for you know, not in the past. I agree with the team needing a better RH OF bat.

Re: Terry's obsession with McD is frustrating:
here we go again..some 'im- posters' here continue to bash individual players. Granted he is below the mendoza line, etc, etc...but the reason he is here is because many players have fallen apart with injuries and McD is versatile..can play 7 positions. So just keep on whining about "certain pitchers" and players you don't like, but stop playing god to things you quite clearly and obviously no absolutely nothing about..get a clue before you whine

Ummnnn...what 7 positions can McD play? He's a right-handed hitting outfielder in an organization lacking other major league ready outfield options. The ability to play all three outfield positions is the extent of his versatility.

McDonald is like the corpse who keeps sitting up at his own funeral. Reddick is starting to look like the prince who fainted at his investiture. For now. Short-term,McDonald gets credit for usefulness when needed ( like last year ), but long-term the "solution" in right may turn out not to be the solution. Reddick is getting a long audition for the job and became a lock in some people's minds, prematurely. Perhaps, like everyone else at one time or other, he's just slumping and will snap out of it. But he was not impressive in previous tries and was not hitting that well in Pawtucket before his call-up. His position, once again, is starting to look wide open for someone to grab. Maybe he'll do it. Maybe Kalish. Maybe a man from outside. Maybe -- let's hear it from everyone -- McDonald.

I haven't been very kind to McD in recent posts because as a fan I want our team to win first and foremost. However, if McD is beginning to regain the confidence he showed us last season that's all I ask for. We need these types of "more consistent" performances from our bench.

D-MAC has the best curls since Coco Crisp, exceeding that of Manny, who went rasta-fari

Francona doesn't have an obession with McD...
What Francona's trying to do is put the best team on the field every day with the goal of trying to compete and win that days game and he only gets to choose from the guys that are on his 25 man roster...
Dmac is one of the 25 and is currently the only RH hitter we have that is an OFer by trade. His value to the Sox aside from the side of the plate he hits from and his league minimum salary is that he can play all three outfield positions and be used as pinch runner late in games when we need a run...As we saw yesterday, when given the chance to hit, will run into a ball and drive it out..Make no mistake MacDonald is not an everyday player, everyone including himself knows that...but as long as he's on the roster, like it or not, you gotta play him.

McD is batting .289 since the AS break, with an OPS over 1.000.
By the way, Reddick is batting .243 since the AS break.
CC is batting .280 for the month of August

These facts are of little interest to Thread author.
He doesn't research - and rarely acknowledges that of others.

So whoever posted and whoever agreed with the poster, answer these questions:
1. Who else could Francona play?
2. The roster is Theo's and thus Francona has to play what he is given. He has nothing.
This is Theo's problem.

vs LHPs: anyone but Crawford. Yes, Theo signed him, but Tito doesn't have to play him.

Hard for anyone to foresee so many injuries, a massive decline by Drew, and a horrible start by CC. Yes, ultimately it is Theo who has to answer to the results, but I do think Tito could have done a little better.

Did we get Aviles to be our third SS? Looks like it, with DMac its been all about inconsistency not the fact we dislike him. DMac tonight is the 180 hitter we have seen most of this season. Three outs back to the pitcher and a SO. If Aviles isn't going to play the OF we should at least find another option before the PS if DMac can't cut it. Lavarnway played the OF in college, not sure if he could again but its worth a shot.

bring back JD Drew, the man who's value went up ten-fold because Reddick came back to Earth and McDonald can't come close to the Mendoza line.
