The Audacity of MS Media on Epstein Choosing his GM Job: Epstein needs to be run out of town on a rail!

2009 to 2011 fiasco was created by incompetence of Epstein! The problem cannot be the solution. FA contracts are a total joke on value and fit scale, and pitching management approach and development is nothing short of pathetic throughout the entire organization! Mac is the young Rh OFer that is all there is to show for rh OF youth development for Fenway Park in nearly a decade!

Crawford, Jenks, Lackey being the latest failures on the FA front of paying for career years for players with best years in the past!

    Eptein fails on every front!

    Depth of youth player development!

Pitching staff management, acquisition and development!

    FA value and fit acquistition!

Gifting roster spots to washed up veterans like Lowell and Wakefield!

The most important move for the Red Sox is to get rid of this sunk cost! If the Cubs are stupid enough to hire him, send the Cubs a thank you gift!

2004 was largely the work of the prior gm. 2007 was largely the work of Luchino and an ownership group committed to providing a huge budget for retention and aquisition.

Regardless of how much credit one wants to assign to Epstein for the past, there can be no doubt that the last 3 years have been completely incompetent disasters on every evaluation level!

Ignore lazy and access seeking Boston media, Epstein needs to go!

Ellsbury didn't play in 2010, which combined with 2011 collapse does not say anything positive about a young player's durability or leadership.

A list of 6 players in nearly a decade! Small market teams can't retain theirs, and 6 in nearly a decade is no more than most teams.

Epstein and 6 players in nearly half a decade is reason to defend this idiot!

As for Ellsbury, you two have a plan for Crawford and Ellsbury extension! I didn't think so! How about a decent young pitching talent under the age of 46! How about a decent young rh OF slugger so the Red Sox don't do worse at home than on the road!

If they'd traded Ellsbury after the 2007 season, the Sox would have had Johan Santana...the BEST pitcher in MLB in 2008.

Kept Ellsbury, Sox lost in 7 games in the 2008 ALCS after Wakefield played tee ball with the Rays and Beckett couldn't close the deal.

Red Sox 2008 World Series champs and no Ellsbury in 2011
Red Sox 2011 no playoffs and Ellsbury still on the roster

Sox fans wanted the WS title.
Theo Chicks wanted to keep Ellsbury.

He didn't single handedly do anything. He does not lead the team in BA, OBP, or OPS and is the face of a loser. He will soon be on another team's FA trough, becuase Crawford and 142M aren't going anywhere.

And some players actually lead by example.

    32 Homers  105 RBI's .321 BA  .928 OPS

I think they call this reverse-pivot leadership...

2010 was reverse absent leadership. No suprise that Ellsbury has a career season on a loser team!

Wakefield and Varitek lead by scuffing.

Varitek was magic in September. What a leader!

Re: The Audacity of MS Media on Epstein Choosing his GM Job: Epstein needs to be run out of town on a rail!

6 everyday players in 8 years is actually a GOOD track record for a GM. How many GM's have found 6 MLB level players that can start on a perrenial 90+ win team in the last 8 years? Of course you won't answer.

Despite your irrational hatred of Ellsbury..he was THE BEST PLAYER ON THE TEAM this year, and it had nothing to do with a "reverse pivot". I know you have some bigotry against him, that for the last few months you have somehow tied to Ortiz, claiming anyone who doesnt want Ortiz back is a bigot, yet, Ellsbury out homered Ortiz, and drove in MORE runs from the leadoff spot.

For all your complaints about Theo not building a farm system... he built a good enough system to trade for Agon...who is one of the best players in baseball.. or did you not notice his .340 BA , .410 OBP and the fact that he is WAY more valuable than Ortiz, if for no other reason than he does not have to sit out when they play the NL, because he is capable of playing the field, something 37-39 yr old Ortiz is not capable of doing.

Have you ever watched baseball? Or do you just make s**t up as you go along?

Come on Harness, you must know those numbers are a statistical anomoly, because Ellsbury is nothing but a reverse-pivot, slap-hitting, pea-shooting jitterbug! lol

Re: The Audacity of MS Media on Epstein Choosing his GM Job: Epstein needs to be run out of town on a rail!

With regard to the baseball operations, there is also the need for serious reform. Carl Crawford is a good baseball player – certainly a better one than he showed this year – but there was always the feeling that he was signed more for declining TV ratings than anything else. His skill set just doesn’t quite fit with organizational philosophy. The Crawford signing only amplifies the train wreck that has been Epstein’s history of major free agent signings, from J.D. Drew to Julio Lugo to Edgar Renteria to John Lackey. How do you explain that, Theo? Are the Sox relying more on data analysis with pro free agents than they are with amateur players, with whom they have generally been successful? Is ownership intervening because the Sox want TV stars? Or has there been a complete disregard for intangibles like heart and guts, the attributes which the 2011 team so glaringly lacked?

Fact: these Red Sox haven’t won a World Series without Manny Ramirez, the lineup centerpiece whom they inherited. For that matter, guys like Johnny Damon, Jason Varitek and Pedro Martinez were inherited, too. The deal for Josh Beckett and Mike Lowell was made during Epstein’s temporary resignation in 2005, and there would have been no 2007 title without either. All of this only supports the theory that it takes a great deal to win a championship, from teamwork to luck.

And so, with regard to all of the non-uninformed personnel who have had a hand in the deterioration of the Red Sox over the last few years, here’s a sincere tip: stop thinking you’re that much smarter than everyone else. When you get right down to it, none of us knows a darned thing about anything. To some degree, we’re all flying by the seats of our pants. The people in uniform aren’t the only ones who have grown a little too fat.

The Mazz article above written on October 1 is certainly not a Theo endorsement.

Those six players are a result of good scouting and the draft lottery. Theo's problem is that he keeps prospects in the minor leagues for far too long. when other teams are bringing guys up at 22 years of age, the RS are waiting until they are 24 or 25, putting far too much value on "seasoning".
