This deal is right up there with selling Ruth to NY. We will not see another WC in this lifetime.

Did Dan Shaugnessy put you up to this? Anyway, you should be happy. The Dodgers look like they'll be tough in the playoffs.

Actually, this may turn out to be a good thing because RS fans can go back to having their hearts broken, and hoping for a miracle. There was nothing to look forward to after we won in 04, and 07 was just an exclamation point. Red Sox fans used to thrive on misery. They can once again.

The Sox, once the pitching straightened out, provided 4 1/2 months of the best
baseball we have seen around here in my lifetime.  They were on a pace to win 100 games even after a dismal losing record in April.  Then the pitching collapsed.  Then Theo left and Ben got cheap, trying to fix the pitching by signing Cook, Padilla, Ohlendorf and Prior and making Bob McClure the pitching coach.  He also waited too long to jettison Youkilis and got nothing for him, and allowed the players to feel they ran things in the clubhouse, backing them in conflicts with Bobby V.  When that didn't work out, he traded his best player, a player who was mismanaged and mistreated but played hurt and finally showed some ability to perform under the microscope that is Boston Sports, simply because he had the gall to accept a huge salary when it was offered to him, just to get rid of a guy he should have traded last winter, when his value was high.  This NEW direction is SOOOO encouraging. But hey, WE saved a lot of money!!!

Ortiz is going back on the DL & likely done for the season & the fragile Ellsbury will probably be on the DL the next time the 2 teams meet. So no worries for you, there are no tough outs.

If you think selling arguably the greatest player of all time for cash is the same as selling an above average to great player in Gonzalez for prospects and the right do dump 2 overpaid underachievers in Beckett and Crawford you are crazy.

I don't understand the attitude of people saying the RS are going to suck for the next few years because of this trade.  They are pretty f'ing bad right now if you haven't noticed.  If they didn't make this trade the roster wasn't changing at all.  At least now there is a chance to remake it in a positive way.  Ben C could still screw it up, but right now there is still hope.

Ruth have won titles with Boston and then won more titles with the Yankees.   Agonz/Crawford never have won a title nor have made to the playoff as a Red Sox players.  Obviously they are the players that could curse the team for not making into the playoff or win it all.

Exactly!  People forget that there are now TWO wildcard teams.  Look at some of the teams fighting for the WC this season.  I have to think that the 2013 Red Sox will be just as strong if not stronger than the likes of Balitimore, Oakland, etc.

Will they be a WS team in 2013?  Doubt it.  Will they be in the playoff hunt?  Probably.  If they spend wisely.

The more games we lose the better our position in the draft.
The Red Sox did what they had to do: continue cleaning house. The job is now more than half done. Need to get rid of Lackey somehow, and probably Cherries and maybe Valentine. You cannot run the same group of losers out there every year and expect different results.

Hey, pumpsie. How's it going? I'm not sure the job is more than half done, but it's a heluva good start. A lot of folks would like to get rid of Lackey, but don't be surprised to see him in the middle of the rotation next season. Valentine too. Cherrington I think is here to stay for a while. He's a good soldier. Does as he's told.

The curse of Theo leaving. (for no compensation)
Now the inheritance he left us is also gone. (for no compensation)
we can go to the old way of
    rearing farm prospects in the
village while we watch the big
boy clubs play it out in october.
    wild cards or not.
oh yeah but we got our revenge. Sent the 3 best players
on the club to get a world championship for themselves.
I guess the sox really let the ones they kept have it. Lackey,
and who ever else we scape goat for not winning the last
7/8 of a season. (any one but Pedey i guess but there are cracks there
    too).
