The Red Sox do wanted Oswalt.  But right now Oswalt is still taking his time to find his best offer he can find.  If Boston do not want to wait too long for him to make his decision, it is more likely that Boston will go to plan B or C such as to sign Haren or Webb or Malholm or Colon or Edwin Jackson or Livan Hernandez or Kuroda for a cheap one year contract.  Maybe Kuroda wont take a cheap contract, but right now everyone is backing away from him cuz his asking price is way too high lately.

In response to "Re: The pitcher the sox need: Matt Garza":
Go for Oswalt for one, even two years. Then use the kids to fill in the 5 hole. Doubront, Tazawa, Miller...or even Wake. Then you have Bard, Melancon and Aceves in your pen. It looks like the market for Madson is down to just two teams, so if they don't start a bidding war, he might be able to be had relatively cheap. That would be a very solid bullpen, with 4 pretty solid starters and one question mark with options to use. Then you could go and make a move for a right field platoon guy, or trade for a bigger bat there. Posted by jgallag1
Your post makes sense, but the problem is that both Bard & Aceves want opportunities to start. They will be given every opportunity and my guess is at least one of them will pitch well enough to earn a spot in the rotation...

If Cubs Front Office has Yanks, Sox and Jays bidding against each other, then good luck to the "winner." Id be surprised if Sox are doing anything more than driving price up...
