    The sky is falling...

in Tampa. The Rays have lost 6 of thier last 8 and thier lead in the wildcard is now down to one over Oakland with the Orioles only 3 back in the loss column. Can they hold or are they doomed to fall into the Abiss?

Bean check out the Ray's schedule:

    http://stats.boston.com/mlb/teamstats.asp?team=30&type=schedule

They draw Kershaw today. They are home to NYY, then they have a one game makeup in KC , then return home with the Angels then they go for another 10 game trip to Oak, LA and Seattle the end of Aug beginning of Sept.

It will be an interesting 42 games??? ahead. The Sox have played 4 more games than the Rays so there is only a one game difference in the loss column.

The O's have a similar situation, the Sox have played three more games than the O's: their schedule is attached.

    http://stats.boston.com/mlb/teamstats.asp?team=1&type=schedule

All three teams will have to continue to play well in their remaining games.

Agreed...I was not implying the Sox were a shoo in, merely trying to poke fun at some of the regular doom and gloomers that jump on and off the Sox bandwagon...

Good point about games already played. I'd rather be in the Sox situation, reasons is teams that have to play to make them up, a loss is critical, lot more pressure. They win so be it, but if Sox dont play and they lose, that will be big.

The difference between the RS and all others right now is that the RS have been consistent no long winning or losing streaks as opposed to others. Many have gone on 9/10/11  win streaks followed or preceded by 6 game losing streaks. RS have been consistent winning more series 2 of 3 or 3 of 4 hell even a spkit of 2 of 4 IMHO is a win on the road.

LOVE my  Red Sox, Bs, Cs, Pats and enjoy the ride every year.

Tampa playing the Dodgers in LA not an easy task. If I'm not mistaken the Sox are headed out there shortly.

Tampa is not that far out to recoup a few games with some home cooking.

I think people tend to underestimate the role scheduling plays in hot and cold streaks.  When TB was winning every day, over a stretch of 23 games, they played Houston 7x, WS 3x, MN 4x, and TO 3x.  They went 15-2, which is great, but it is also against about the 4 worst teams in the league.  Now they lost 4 in a row, but it is at AZ and LA.

No doubt, lots of baseball left to be played. This thread was intended to poke fun at all of the doom and gloom threads started after every Sox loss.

I have never knew that Texas over took the A's in the west division standing.

Well, there are alot of games to be play for anyone.  Remember Boston got Orioles 9 more times and only have three more games against Tampa.  IF Boston can take care of all AL east teams, they will win the EAST.

Right now it is too early to get excite!!

Never underestimate the ability of that Goofy Genius to make your life a royal pain in the butt. Furthermore, they have stumbled and the Sox have not buried them the way they should have. Id suggest staying perpetually more than three games ahead of them so we dont have to worry about losing first when we go there middle of September.

Do not get over confident. The Rays are getting beat up by the Dodgers. Our turn is coming. How well do we match up with Greinke and Kershaw ? Not with guys like Peavy and Dempster. That is for sure.  We are currently in the driver's seat,  but our position is far from secure. This has not been a good road trip. We need to beat up on Toronto. We need to beat up on the Yankees. Can we do that ? Not unless our starters pitch a whole lot better. If not , the west coast trip could be big trouble.

Rays getting schooled again by LA. Hoping we can do a little better when we got out there and to SF.

The Dodgers will be tough, but the Giants, not so much.  Their hitting is weak and their bullpen is awful.
