There Should Be a Goal to Everything in Life....What was the Goal of Starting DiceK?

Honestly, the Red Sox are a complete laughing stock to us fans and to all of baseball. There was absolutely no point in starting DiceK tonight. He is gone from the organization, he is awful.

The Red Sox should have pitched a bunch of relievers starting with Mortensen for example and pitched them 1-2 innings.

Someone explain to me what purpose it served other than providing the Yankees with the AL East title.

Methinks they really and truly needed to know for sure that Dice has nothing left for them and that they can say they tried to get him going this year to justify the huge salary.  If he won, they might've been tempted to re-sign him in November.......

Seriously what does it matter who started. We know you hate Dice just let it go and focus on what they should do going forward.

Going forward...no more long contracts that mortgage the franchise, stay with young players from within as much as possible and don't pocket the money the FO saved by giving away those players...grant us at least a competitive team next year...and for heavens sake let the new manager bring in his own coaches and get rid of the dirge of pathetic coaches BV was stuck with.  Oh yea and don't bring in another BV type.

No long term contracts means you do not get great players who can make a difference. You do not get guys like Schilling, Manny, AGon, Pedro, etc...

If you stick with younger guys you end up with being the KC Royals, Pirates, or some other small market team that may make a run but will fail in the long term.

They should have left him in for the entire game, and hoped he got shelled for about 30 points.

Hang your head  in shame, Dice-K, and return to the land of the setting sun.

You may be right.  Although, in Dice-K's defense, I did hear one of the local analysts, (not sure who it was) say that he believes that Dice-K was never healthy for the entire season.  He certainly pitched like he was still injured and had never recovered from the tommy john surgery.  Not sure what will happen to him, but I wouldn't be surprised if returns to Japan.  Maybe he can take Bobby V with him.

[/QUOTE]  Given the benefit of 20/20 hindsight, it would be that regardless of the motivation for Dice K's final start,  the end result was to give Yankees one more glimpse of something they have enjoyed much more often than not through the years (watching Japan's National Treasure pitch live batting practice) and to demonstrate the fallacy of the myth that all Japanese starting pitchers are incapable of being successful in the major leagues.  The only common thread between Kuroda and Matzusaka is that they were both born, raised and developed in Japan.  In terms of talent, the difference is as vast as the Grand Canyon.

I totally agree, a manager has to have his guys...so fire Bobby V, bring in the new guy and let him clean house from a coaching perspective.

As for long contracts, I personally think you use them for re-signing guys who have played here and proven themselves.  Pedro is a good example...traded for him, and then they kept him.  if a guy comes here, proves that he handle the pressure and the media...sign him long term.

Who you do you rather to have on the mound last nite, Doubront or Dice K?  Since Doubront started to fatigue in the last four weeks, do you want to keep wearing him out where he could probably carry his fatigue problem for the next season.  If there is someone that need to reach their goal such as to win 15 games or 20 games or 200 strikeouts, of course the manager would put that guy on the mound.  But last nite it was a meaningless game!!

Ownership wanted him to go out with a bang - which he did, to the tune of 5 runs in 2.1 innings... Way to go Roll the Dice-K.  Now if they can find a taker for Lackey...

Can you tell us that whoever started  will not be gone from the organization? What at this  point would be the reason for starting your relief pitching?
