From ESPN:
TAMPA, Fla. -- The injury that will keep New York Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira out of the lineup until May at the earliest is not a wrist strain, as originally reported, but a partially torn tendon sheath that could potentially require season-ending surgery.

I think that's the best idea. Youk to me was always better at 1B. Plus I think he would 'stay healthier' there.

I thought this may happen when he first announced the injury, so no surprise. Thats similar to what Ortiz had. Even when he gets back (if its this year) it will be weeks before he gets back to himself, longer if he has surgery. It took Otiz a couple years to get all the way back.

Youk has been tearing the cover off the ball this spring. I sure hope he stays healthy.

Dont worry. Youll see the Youk we traded eventually. Patience.

I heard it was the kind of thing that does NOT require surgery, just time. If the sheath were completely torn, or if the tendon was not stable, season ending surgery would be the only option. He does not have that.

I think Youk would be the smart choice for 1b and I also think he will have a much better year with the bat because of it.

Jose Bautista had a similar injury last year that required season-ending surgery.

A week ago, it wasn't a tear at all.
I guess the Sox medical staff aren't the only ones that can't get a diagnosis right the first time.

And exactly what came to mind when I read about Tex.
Sure don't sound good to me. I'd like to be optimistic about this but considering what I've seen in the past with others who have had a similar injury it is difficult.
You wonder how much harder a wrist injury of this type would be to heal and to overcome without surgery for a switch hitter.

Actually Youk seems to be in really good shape this year and is hitting the ball really well this ST for Yanks. With weight loss and no goatee looks 10 yrs younger. As for Tex tough break at his age, Nomar was never the same after same injury and about same age. Hopefully not as bad.

I wonder if the Yankees consider 2009 validation of Tex's freight? I'm glad that I was correct in imploring Red Sox management to avoid him like the plague.

It would be really upsetting if Youk gives the Yanks GG at first and a BA of .280+ with 15 HRs over 140 games. Not unreasonable, if he has a resurgance.

...at the rate yank starters are dropping, Cano won't see a pitch to hit all season. He may set an alltime record for walks despite his freeswinging ways. Why would any opponent pitch to him if the game was on the line, seeing what else is in the lineup?

While the Yankees are really up against it, this year, every year they are written off as too old and all they do is win the division like clockwork. They have a better than average pitching staff and they have a proven winner player accountability leader in Jeter. The odds are against them, but I espect them to contend for a playoff spot. "Content" is not the same as "compete".
The Yankees are better managed as a big market team. That's not saying much, though.

The Yankees are aging.
Aging, with bones brittle like plaster of paris.
Aging, with ligaments supple as dried rubber bands.
Aging, with tendon sheaths integral as an old garden hose.

ever notice in the past
how some in RSN
loved to talk about how the yanks were to old
and then ended up using injuries for an excuse
for Y their team finished so for behind them
just what was there point
