Re: This team quit on Francona

HEY....RED SOX NATION4EVER...I HAVE BEEN A FAN SINCE
THE DAYS OF LONBORG. YOU GOTTA TAKE OFF THE ROSE
COLORED GLASSES. THE TEAM STINKS. SO WHAT IF THE
TEAM IS HURTING AT STARTING PITCHING /?? IT'S THE
JOB OF THE FARM SYSTEM AND GM TO EITHER TRADE FOR
LIVE ARMS OR DEVELOP THEM DOWN IN AA AND A. THE
YANKS SEEM TO BE ABLE TO DEVELOP NOVA, ROBERTSON,
LOGAN, MARIANO, ETC. THEY DEVELOP NUNEZ, GARDNER,
MONTERO... WHO THE H__ DOES BOSTON DEVELOP AFTER
ELLSBURY ? KALISH ?? THEY SENT HIM DOWN ! REDDICK ?
HE IS MEDIOCRE ! MC DONALD ? A SCRUB JACKSON...A
WASHOUT WITH ABOUT 3 OTHER TEAMS ! SALTALAMACCHIA
STINKS AS A CATCHER AND AS A HITTER. HIS SWING IS
TOO LONG. CRAWFORD HAS GIVEN UP, AND FROM WHAT I SEE
FROM HIS BODY LANGUAGE, WANTS TO GET OUT OF BOSTON
AS FAST AS POSSIBLE. I WOULD BUY HIM THAT TICKET,
EVEN THOUGH HE CAN AFFORD IT...I THINK !!!
This team has just given up. They have no heart no passion right now. The playoffs might spark them but they look like they just don't want to play. Ellsbury who everyone doubted last year is the only one trying right now.

It sure looks that way folks, but I think they quit on our pitching staff more than Francona.  Our staff has sucked the life out of our team.

THE YANKS DEVELOP CHAMBERLAIN, NOVA, ROBERTSON, LOGAN
AND OF COURSE, PETTITTE AND MARIANO. THE SOX DEVELOP
D0UBRONT, BOWDEN, AND SIGN GUYS LIKE MILLER, BEDARD,
JENKS, WHEELER, TREVER MILLER, ETC. THE CASTOFFS OF
BASEBALL. IF JENKS AND LACKEY WERE ANY GOOD, THE WHITE
SOX AND ANGELS WOULDA KEPT HEM. KEEPING WAKEFIELD
AROUND IS THE POSTER CHILD FOR SOX INEPTITUDE. NO OTHER
TEAM IN BASEBALL, EXCEPT MAYBE THE METS, KEEPS A
KNUCKLBALLER AROUND BECAUSE THEY KNOW THE RISKS,
ESPECIALLY IN ONE AND TWO RUN GAMES. BUT NOW, WHEN
THE SOX OFFENSE HAS SPUTTERED, WAKEFIELD BECOMES
EVEN MORE OF A LIABILITY, BECAUSE RUNS ARE DEAR IN
GAMES NOWADAYS, ESPECIALLY THE WAY THE SOX ARE
HITTING NOW. THEY SHOULD FIRE YOUNG, MAGADAN,
FRANCONA AND EPSTEIN. A CLEAN SWEEP IS NEEDED, A LA
THE METS....BUT HOPEFULLY WITH DIFFERENT RESULTS.
MY FONDEST WISH WOULD BE TO SEE CRAWFORD AND LACKEY
OFF THIS TEAM, BUT FIRING FRANCONA AND EPSTEIN WOULD
DO NICELY AS A SUBSTITUTE !!!!

Our pen was not the reason we are losing. How many teams have 8th and 9th inning guys like Bard and Papelbon AND Aceves?

AL numbers:
Our whole pen is 1st in WHIP at 1.21
2nd in pen WAR (6.9)
5th in pen ERA at 3.71
3rd in pen xFIP at 3.79

Our AL starter numbers are highly influenced by Beckett and lester's good numbers, but despite their seasons, we still are:
10th out of 14 in starter WHIP.
9th in WAR (12.2)
10th in ERA 4.45 (TB is 1st)
12th in xFIP
13th in IP behind only Baltimore.

We fall way behind then can't hold the score when we finally do score.  This is a terrible staff to watch.

In Response to Re: This team quit on Francona:
In Response to Re: This team quit on Francona : So the Red Sox should not have a modern bullpen like 29 other teams? One that is not Francona's fault, two it is not 1961 anymore. A good bullpen only return a starter to go 6 innings and have 3-4 lights out guys ready to go. If you get 7 innings from a starter that is more than enough to save your bp, 6 innings should not burnout your bp if you have enough arms.
Posted by BosoxJoe5
Then again, if your starter is prepared to go 9 and consistantly goes at least 7, you shouldn't need as many arms in the bullpen!
