Thats one way of looking at it, heres another. 1. We could be happy that hes healthy and will be back in the rotation soon, that solves a lot of this team's potential problems. 2. Peace of mind on a medical issue is worth a lot. My brother had testicular cancer when he was 28, so when I started having pains I got myself checked out. Not playing games with it, and Id suggest that no one else do the macho thing and play games either. My point is, I didnt believe I had cancer, but I wanted an expert to look things over to confirm what I figured. He told me I had a minor hernia, end of story, end of problem, end of worries. Now I can go on about my life and not think about it. Thats what Clay did, and while its annoying to us fans (Ive posted that myself), now that hes well he can go back to doing what he was doing and win baseball games for the Red Sox. Trading him would be dumb, hes a great pitcher--one of the best in the AL.

This is nothing to be upset about. I was fearing the worst. This is a relief.

Exactly. Not sure why anyone would start a thread complaining about him being healthy. If the report was bad it would have been "told ya, hes fragile, hes a goldbrick, need to get rid of him asap." We just got one of the best RH SP's in baseball for our rotation. Whats not to like?

    1) Players have different pain threshholds. Calling him "soft" is not something anyone knows is true. For all we know, he may have pitched in more pain than others have done.

    2) Even the best doctors will tell you that they can never be 100% sure of any diagnosis or prognosis. MRIs do not show everything.

    3) Cut Buch some slack.

Now he needs to get rid of inflamation. I hope he can pitch with the inflamation and not hurt himself in any way.

LOVE my  Red Sox, Bs, Cs, Pats and enjoy the ride every year.

Buch is not built like a war horse.  Pitching is tough on the body so I'm not suprised buch isn't holding up well.  I hope he is able to return to help the team out. They sure need it.

I think Soxyjim was writing what he had hoped Dr. Andrews had said, and ignored what Dr. Andrews actually said.  I think Jim is a little soft and should be traded to the Royals fans.

    :)

Agreed - soxyjim seems to have trouble mustering more than 50 posts per baseball season. Like you, I have serious concerns about his durability. It seems like if he has any questions in his head about his ability to post on a given day, he chooses not to. I think we are better off trading him to another forum. Also I think based on this mediocre "I told you so" post that his fastball is in serious decline....

You are right.  I still like him but he definitely isn't as durable as some other pitchers.  We can only hope that he can remain healthy for the remainder of the season.

The kid is not physically or mentally tough at all.....sad, sad little man...definitely more like a golfer or a bowler than a Bruin....

thats because hes on the red sox not the bruins...theres no comparing an MLB pitcher with a hockey player...

An MLB pitcher has discomfort in his shoulder, wants to get a 2nd optnion to make sure there will be no issues that will affect his career. Im still trying to find something wrong with that.

We all know Buch isnt very durable and we would be very very lucky if the kid ever throws 200IP in a year. This is who he is and who he has been for a few years now. "Unfortunately", when hes on the mound hes one of the top pitchers in MLB. Hopefully he feels better after talking to Andrews and will start working through this.

WHy would you trade Buch he's cheap.  So if he's softy then he can't handle being the #1 guy, fine he's not being paid to be the #1 guy.  Go out and get a workhorse who can give you 200+ innings and be happy with clay as the #2 #3 guy.

Also some people don't understand pain the same way as others and have a harder time distinguishing between pain and between injury.  The fact that there is nothing structurally wrong with Clay is GOOD news.  If he can educate himself, and spend more time in the offseason conditioning his body he would be less prone to these little nicks that make him feel like something is wrong.

If there is nothing structurally wrong with him and he's just feeling some bruises.....that can easily fixed.  Structural damage cannot'.  And as long as he's not being overpaid It's a non issue.

It's also understandable that he's a little gun shy, in regards to feeling like something is amiss.

The stress fractures in his spine weren't discovered right away.

I wouldn't be in any rush to get back out there, if I wasn't sure what was happeing to my shoulder either.

Also sometimes doctors miss things.  I just got out of the hospital last night for an undisclosed injury that a specialist had missed just last week.  Doctors told me I was fine......I wasn't fine. But I'm good now.

I don't think that was the case with Buccholz, it looks like he is healthy.  But the mentality is the same, If your doctor has been wrong before and you are feeling pain your mind can really play tricks on you and worry you.  Maybe there really is something sincere to Farrel saying Buch could have some "peace of mind"

bottom line is Clay is hurt quite often and if he's hurt and cant pitch he's of no use. not sure what you could get for him but i would say ride out the season with him and then make a decision depending on how it goes

he's on a 5 year / $30MM contract thru '15.  I guarantee you this ---- he will take no chances until after he signs his first big FA contract.  until then - he feels discomfort?  count on him shutting it down.  you want him to pitch thru pain?  pony up the big LTC...$$$$....

it's not about "soft".  it's about the almighty dollar.

btw - threads that start with "told ya" are lame.  IMO.  big deal.  you think you were actually right about something.  whoop-de-mother-flippin-do.....
