Dont forget they decided against Jason Bay and then went after Mike Cameron who struggled in the National League. Theo then was selling pitching and defense back then. What a joke. Jason Bay was a much better fit as would have Matt Holiday as a right handed left fielder. In response to "Re: Tuesday Night Game Thread: Red Sox at Rangers":
does it take this to get a win. unfortunately first row and vipstand were down and or didnt have the sox game. i dotn think we even make the 1 game play in. wed have to hit 6-10 runs a game. while oakland is the only team beating the yanks, orioles are keeping it up, rays, angels, detroit, chicago, etc etc. what is it 7 teams we ahve to leap. and then only to lose the 1 game playoff. wed need a miracle more improbable than the collapse last year. better to drop the dead wood play young and plan for the future

we need pitching...This game just proves with solid pitching you can win the low scoring games...Which the sox have lost more times than not this year...Buch is rolling...has been since the start of June...

Sox are 11-6 when Clay pitches...almost as many wins as JL and JB combined...

The Red Sox return to .500 and AL East teams improve to 45-49 in head-to-head competition against AL West teams this season (although the Mariners have a 3-1 lead against the Yankees in the sixth inning).

In Response to Re: Tuesday Night Game Thread: Red Sox at Rangers:
Jason Bay 's first game back with the New York Mets since going down with a concussion on June 15 couldn't have been much worse. Valdespin and Thole To The Rescue After Bay went 0-for-3, Mets manager Terry Collins showed he had absolutely no confidence in him by sending 24-year-old rookie Jordany Valdespin up to pinch hit for him in a key spot in the top of the ninth inning. Valdespin took advantage of the opportunity, blasting a three-run homer off Tyler Clippard to give the Mets a 3-2 lead that Bobby Parnell gave right back in the bottom of the inning. As for Bay, who looked sharp by going 3-for-10 with four walks in rehab assignments with Triple-A Buffalo, he returned for the Mets' tilt against the Washington Nationals on July 17, and promptly hit into a double play in his first at-bat of the game. Beato's Wild Pitch In his second appearance at the plate, Bay grounded out weakly to Nats pitcher Ross Detwiler. His final at-bat was absolutely nightmarish, as he stranded the would-be tying run at third base by flying out to Bryce Harper on a ball hit too shallow to bring David Wright home. Mets catcher Josh Thole eventually took Bay off the hook by giving the Mets a 4-3 lead with a double in the top of the tenth, but Tim Byrdak gave the lead right back when Bryce Harper blasted a triple off him that scored Jhonatan Solano.

Nice win. Good for Clay. Why would care about Jason Bay at this time?

He would have had a better fate in Boston than withnthe New York Mets. In response to "Re: Tuesday Night Game Thread: Red Sox at Rangers":
In Response to Re: Tuesday Night Game Thread: Red Sox at Rangers : WASHINGTON — Jason Bay knew he was in no position to complain. When you haven’t been part of the team for nearly five weeks and when he hasn’t really hit all season — or in a Mets uniform, for that matter — Bay knew he had no rebuttal when manager Terry Collins pinch-hit for him in the ninth inning of last night’s game against the Nationals. So instead of getting one last chance to redeem himself, Bay only could turn cheerleader and watch Jordany Valdespin belt a dramatic three-run, pinch-hit homer that momentarily gave the Mets a 3-2 lead. Thanks to a faulty bullpen, the Mets wound up losing, 5-4, in 10 innings. Bay went 0-for-3, dropping his batting average to .179 for the season and raising questions as to how long the Mets can wait for him to heat up. Collins insisted pinch-hitting for him in the ninth with the game on the line wasn’t an easy decision. The Mets were down 2-0 with one out after singles by Josh Thole and David Wright. Collins had told Bay before the inning began that if his spot came up, he might use a pinch-hitter. “You don’t really have an argument there,” Bay said. “Had I been doing better, had I been around and swinging the bat well, I could say ‘Hey, what’s going on?’ Obviously, you want to hit. You want a chance to do something well. But there’s no way I can argue.” Read more: http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/mets/jordany_rules_forces_bay_to_sit_rMCJa8ETONZQ5z5xppgqjJ#ixzz21bPwdYO5 Posted by Calzone65
It's a match that should have happened, but never did. The one that got away.
