No doubt Koji has what it takes from a stuff and mental stuff standpoint.  Just hope he can hold up physically.

Well, at least it's efficient in that the players save a round of high fives.  They'll only have to do it once at the completion of Red Sox victories.

Why do we need to "name" a closer and put that much more pressure on him? Why dont we just send a guy out there in the ninth inning to pitch?

Good, now we can blow leads in the 8th inning!

    Anyone besides Bailey is fine.

Good move; he may blow one or two but mostly it'll be lights out.

Thats the entire issue. Now we are weak in the 7th and 8th. Guess someone had to be named. Bailey needs to go far far away.

I guess.  I mean, he was a little rocky two years ago after trade from baltimore.  But he was pretty much lights out last year.  As he was in Baltimore and as he has been thus far for the Sox.  I would see his 2011 transition to Arlington was an abberation.

No closer gets them all. If Uehara doesn't break down he should be fine there. They need to find a more permanent solution though.

At first, only when the team is behind by 3 or more runs.  Or ahead by 5 or more.  If it's the latter, a backup reliever should already be stretching at the start of the inning and be warming up after one or two baserunners reach or a home run is hit.  If it's the former situation and he gets shelled, let him eat some innings if he still can get anybody out.

I'll take Breslow, Miller, or Taz in a tight game.  Anything but Bailey.  At least until he pitches a few clean innings in lower leverage situations.

     pretty much lights

Totally agree he is lights out. Which begs the question of why he was the Rangers 6th inning guy and was the Red Sox 6th inning guy to start the season even behind Tazawa? Is the 6th inning the key inning in baseball? Had to be a reason for that. This is where the main doubt comes from for me.

I love Uehara. He might be my favorite player and he is our BEST pitcher....period.... and was our best pitcher the moment we signed him. But he was Texas's best pitcher too. Yet both teams decided to use him as their 6th inning guy. Only questions about pressure makes sense to me. Add in his playoff performance and his happy go lucky attitude and there just seems to be doubts for me whether he handles pressure well or failure well.

Anyway, hope he can do it. On paper, he is the best choice. Cause like I said, I think he is our best pitcher on the entire team.

Im not on the Uehara bandwagon...he throws in the high 80s...reminds me a lot of Oki and he will be figured out....I would have gone with Miller...Plus now Bailey inherits the 8th inning? I hope not....Miller 7th/Tarzawa 8th...send Bailey to do scrub work or better yet, make him prove himself with men on base.

    As always - 100% correct!

The only way to find out if he is up to the task is to give him the chance.  We really do not have an ideal candidate on the roster. Uehara is as good a choice as anybody.

    Stabbed by Foulke.

Really?  So you're satisfied with Bailey's performance as of late?  Don't mind the constant walks and bombs?

So was it an attempt at sarcasm, or do you honestly believe that choosing Uehara over Bailey is comparable to chosing Drew over Iglesias despite one Baliey implosion after the other?
