Joe, look at the numbers on Vaitik. Not only is his myth getting lit up with 14 hits by the hapless A's, he has a paper arm and butcher Passed ball machine who hit's like a UIF'er. Joe, Varitick stinks! "I lost my cool", and you've lost a lot more than that you prideful old man. CERA = A's light it up and 10 runs in his squat start prior to that. Harness = Varitek

I'm glad to see you bought into CERA.  The pitching staff with Tek catching has an OPSa of .643 while Salty has a .760.  And while Tek has only thrown out 20%, VMart has thrown out only 8%.  And while Tek is the hottest hitting catcher in the league right now, VMart's OPS while catching is .507.  You combine .507 with a 8% CS rate, and he becomes unplayable at that position.

Sox have much more to worry about than catching, move on please.

What about when your hitting .010 for the first 2 months of the season?  Is a a catcher unplayable in that case?

Im with you Geo..I have no issues with what we have behind the plate..Salty is consistently improving and teks bat has been great as of late. Tek has been one of the main reasons salty has started to perform better and mature as a catcher. Something no other team was able to do..That to me, that is very valuable..

Re: Varitek's back-up catching act is old!

Varitek is slightly better than Salt behind the plate, which is not saying much. C'mon people, the guy is 39, how much can he do really?
Salty is starting to hit the ball better but he is a sieve behind the plate. He simply can't catch the ball let alone throw runners out. And the times he can't find the ball amazes me.....it appears he must be closing his eyes when the pitch reaches him.
And for those who are comparing Vmart's offensive stats to Varitek's is simply laughable. We know what each is capable of offensively. It's no contest.

Yes you don't see Tek batting 5th do you?  VMart is effectively protecting Cabrera... one of the best players in the history of MLB.

    Yes, but as a DH.

I can "see" that very well.

Yeah that is true - oh well - he is long gone and I nearly never compare his current game to our catchers at present.  There is no point.

VMart caught Brad Penny and the great Tiger pen and worked his magic voodoo for 3 runs allowed, today, against the team that owns the Red Sox and Varitik. Remember, he's a DH, not a catcher, he just caught while Varitek was soaking his feet and bruised ego. VMart has a .300 BA and .360 OBP and .481 OPS, not bad for an inferior option the great Jason Varitik aka magic fingers and just a great guy.

Sox have kids in Portland better than Cameron. How much is this guy getting paid?
    Posted by bobbysu

Totally agree, Camron is getting $15m for 2 yrs of doing aboslutely fckn nothing. He hasnt had any impact that i can recall. He's atrocious.

He hardly plays, and neither does DMac. Talk about wasted roster space.

Cameron had one of the only 2 homer games of the year. He seldom plays, so I'm not sure who this Portland guy is. If he's better name him and let's call him up to see if he can do what you claim, at this moment.

Myth, and an old myth. This team is going to need to make some adjustments with these old veteran codgers, and upgrading a paper arm old catcher is one of them!

Lavarnway is a hitter and catcher of the future in my opinion.  If Ryan can keep in shape and continue to play like he is now, there is no doubt in my mind he could become a great two way catcher.

Lavarnway should be called up, now. Let him split time with Salty, and invest in the future and turn the lights off the past.

LOL.  Our backup catcher has a better average, OBP, SLG, and OPS than our #4 OF, and it is the backup catcher you want gone, and not the #4.

Kids like Lavarnway will get their chance.  Lets just root for and pray the old dogs can help us win another championship before they leave.

    It's a broken record:

    1) Cut Wake
    2) Cut Tek
    3) Trade Jake
    4) Trade Jed

    Back to number 1.

Moon, am I missing something?  I have been away on a canoe trip for a couple of days but I thought Tek and Salty had found their groove.  What is the deal with Softy in this instance?
