Varitek's back-up catching act is old!

Re: Varitek's back-up catching act is old!

Softy wants a defensive catcher to back up Salty now.

(He wanted Salty to be the back-up earlier before the goalpost moved again.)

    Clown logic:

He recommends calling up a poor defensive catcher, Lavarnway, to take VTek's place.

Catching skills are undeveloped. Limited range behind the dish, an average arm, and stiff reactions on balls he has to move to. Average blocking skills. Has improved on his catch-and-release mechanics since joining the organization. Hard worker, and with continued dedication he could be an average defensive catcher at the major league level... Unfortunately, the BDC fly-swatter has a hole in it.

Softlaw SoxSoxRed don't know from nothing about catchers, which is why he predicted that Saltalamachhia would be a bust at catcher for the Sox.  You know his routine, same one he keeps using on Ellsbury--can't field, can't hit.

Re: Varitek's back-up catching act is old!

Moon, am I missing something?  I have been away on a canoe trip for a couple of days but I thought Tek and Salty had found their groove.  What is the deal with Softy in this instance?

Nothing missed. Same ole softy, just with a stepped up desperation.

Think about it: these are the guys softy is hoping fail:

    1) Ellsbury (having career best season and healthy)
    2) Lowrie  (still healthy and near the team lead on "pop" or Extra Base Hits/PA)
    3) Wakefield (3rd WHIP on Sox staff)
    4) Varitek (Over a .900 OPS the past 28 days and team wins 65% of his starts at catcher)
    5) Salty on fire as well.

    Then there is this...

    1) BHall cut.
    2) Dice-K injured again.
    3) Oki not even claimed
    4) Hellickson doing better than Garza, Joyce better than CC, Farnsworth better than Soriano, Kotchman better than Pena, and TB not going away.
    5) AGon trade to the Sox for players not named Jake or Jed.
    6) AGon signed withing a month of the season start.
    7) VMart not catching much, not catching well (CERA), and not hitting as a catcher.
    8) Cameron and Wheeler faltering.

Instead of attacking our aging players why don't we all just root for them to help our team while they are still here?

We can't change things so just have faith.

Jason "womanizer" Varitik's CERA is 9, in his last two pitching starts. He also lost his cool, and should get lost.

Good to see you following CERA, but you need English and math lessons:

    1) The "E" in ERAstands for "Earned".

    2) These were the Earned runs scored in VTek's last 2 starts:
7 ERs allowed in 8 1/3 (counting 2 inherited runners "allowed" by Salty)
8 ERs allowed in 9 innings
    Total: 15 ERs in 17 1/3 IP
7.79 CERA (lower than Dice-K's ERA last May)

    3) Let's try a larger sample size (even though this is not the way CERA should be used, softy never has understood):
    ERA in 2011:
VTek: 3.35 (6.43 opponents OPS when VTek catches)
Salty: 4.80 (7.60 opponents OPS when he catches)

Funny how voodoo keeps working year in and year out.

Funny how teams have scored 44 runs in Varitek's last 8 "starts".

With the pronoun "he" the verb needs and "s", as in, he needs...

I can see now why you envy ball players that were smart or lucky enough enough to go to college.
