    Vernon Wells

Now that Wells is 3 for his last 36, where are all those whiny bashers who insisted Cherington was schooled  by Cash

man for not getting this guy?

I have nothing against wells but he has pretty much been an overpayed underachiever his entire career. He's a 250 average 15 to 25 homerun hitter who got payed the big bucks because of his rating in the draft. That being Saud he has been a fairly excellent out fielder for most of his career.

They're the type of people that get toasted on every bubble because they don't understand sample size.  They probably have a basement full of Hummels, cabbage patch dolls, and pet rocks, because, you know, these things went up in value 7 straight days.

wells would still be leading sox in long balls

and his overall production still  better than gomes

BTW his defense is not horrible

I will admit that I don't watch much of the Yankees games.  I've probably seen about 2 that weren't Sox Yankees games.  So I realize that my opinion holds pretty much no weight....but his defense has looked horrible from what I've seen.

I would say, its not that his d is horrible:  he is comptetent, doesn't botch plays, gets decent reads.  But, to say he doesn't exactly get to balls would be a bit of an understatement.

but in the spirit of the thread

we are comparing his D to gomes D

I'm thinking wells is less horible

    Not really. Wink

BTW, the only poster comparing Wells to Gomes was you.

If we have to play Gomes in the field as often as the Yankees do Wells, I'll start to worry.

hahaha.  Yes, I can totally get with your comparitive analysis here.  Wells gets a pass from the 'horrible' designation from me because of his competent, if extremely lazy and slow, play out there.  Gomes, well, there is no way to sugar coat it.  Manny was a gold-glover comparitively.

The "whiny bashers" have whined about Nava, Victorino and Gomes, at one point or another, this season.

    Yes, Gomes is worse. Happy?

But, that doesn't make Wells a good player.

He had a nice run this spring.

    Looks like it's over.
