Have to admit, he hasn't come close to justifying the ridiculous contract he signed. Hopefully he can get it turned around or this just might be J.D. Drew all over again.

im as confused as can be about CC...I was so excited about him - much more than Agon...the worst part is his fielding - the Monster is like kryptonite to him...maybe next year we should move him to right field where he can use his range more...i just don't know   :(

Agreed.....I guess it is always different when you see a guy every day rather than 18 times a year, but I cannot believe how pitiful his swings are versus left handed pitching....he looks like an overmacthed rookie.

Re: watching jd crawford bat is as painful as........

Crawford would get better pitches to hit if he was batting near the top of the lineup, sadly, we have two very good top of the lineup batters.

People think this is not true, but when you are batting 6th, you have the 3 worst hitters batting behind you. You will not see as many strikes, and you must adjust. Crawford has not adjusted to being a #6 hitter. He never batted that low in Tampa.

He may never adjust, he needs to be more patient. Media and fan pressure are forcing him to try and do too much. Thus, he has become impatient and is swinging at bad pitches alot.

When people write threads like this, it adds to the problem.

Lay off the guy, let him relax and he will be just fine. Same with Lackey, he is not Jim Palmer. Red Sox fans have to stop expecting Jim Palmer every time Lackey takes the mound.

i used to respect you almighty zillagod, but after that post forget it. you have qualified, along with spaceman, to be co-presidents of the THEO BOOT-LICKER'S fan club.
"don't expect jim palmer" --wow! can we, at least, expect arnold palmer?
and jd crawford is not going to be fine; he can't play in the spotlight; he's a small market performer. i'd like him sent to the seattle mariners; a good place for an albatross.

As he ages and loses bat speed, Crawford's wide open batting stance won't allow him to catch up to a good fastball.

it's not the stance. An open stance actually increases your ability to get into sweet spot of the zone quicker not slower. What it also does, though, is takes away the outside part of the plate more. You throw lefty sliders or fastballs to the outside part of the plate to a lefty with an open stance, you can only do one thing..hit it to left or left center. Crawford is mentally slumped. That's his issue.

Totally agree...he is very anxious looking at the plate.....trying way too hard....which is probably why he is swinging at so many pitches out of the zone, at least against lefties. He needs to relax, pick a zone and wait for his pitch...probably easier said than done for a guy who has never been a very paitient hitter.

Re: watching jd crawford bat is as painful as........

I happen to think he is too open. Yes, it does hurt his coverage of the outer half of the plate and what a surprise it is that pitchers like to work there as much as they can, when they miss away there is no hit batman.

But he is so open that he has so much motion going on to get into the proper hitting position that it is IMO very hard to be repetitive in his swing, hard to keep his head quiet an on the ball, etc.

He had a good amount of success with this in Tampa so radical remake similar to the one Granderson went through was going to require a pretty extended period of mediocrity. Question is are we there yet, is this something that won't be tackled in the middle of the season (good reasons not to BTW) or will it be ignored until the sample sets get HUGE?
