What did Foster do with the ball?

For years Ive wondered about this in my mind, but never investigated it. Thought I'd run it by the forum and see if any Sox fans know the answer off hand. When Carlton Fisk his his famous home run in game six of the 1975 World Series, it hit high off the foul poll, and deflected into the glove of George Foster. The broadcast footage shows Foster pulling the ball out of his glove and holding it in his bare hand before it breaks away to something else. What did he do with the ball?
