Re: what kind of farewell should the SOX give the Jeter?

    lol zac.  i get what you are saying. we are still in the shallow end.

    my point is...i dont care that every ballfield DJ visits will shower him with gifts.  that point became moot the second he announced his retirement tour.

    a = "THE ANNOUNCEMENT"

    b = the 15 minute ceremonies at every stop

    yes, you conceivably cannot have b without a.  i dont care about b though.  i dont care if b happens.  i dont care if b doesnt happen.  b isnt my issue.  a is.

    you dam|\| well know that you absolutely have b if you have a.

    apparently DJ's dad knows that it will be a media circus/distraction every step of the way too and wants to look good for the cameras:

    “@_aperfectstorm: Minor insight such as CharlesJeter losing weight to prep for sons last yr are my favorite! Thx @JackCurryYES!” Very minor

    I'd love for the Yankees to have a farewell to Cano year. THAT would be entertaining. lol
Don't look for Yankee fans to boo the hell out of Cano upon his return to New York, like Sox fans do whenever any of their players depart (do you have your ticket and D batteries for Ellsbury's return to Fenway, Kim?). Yank fans realize it's a business and that the players don't assume the mentality of loyalty that the fans assume exists. Maybe you should watch the applause they give Cano and learn something.
What are you talking about?  Damon?  Clemens?  Can't think of anyone else Sox fans have booed upon return.  Help me out.

    the sideshow distraction celebration has begun.

    After giving Jeter a pair of No. 2 Yankee cowboy boots, a cowboy hat, a set of golf club and lessons from Tiger Woods' former coach Butch Harmon during the pregame, the Astros, led by manager Bo Porter, stepped out of their dugout in the first inning to lead the fans in a standing ovation as Jeter walked to the plate. Before Jeter stepped in the batter's box, he took off his helmet and waved to the crowd. He then grounded out.

         Even though a Yankee, Jeter has been a class guy throughout his career.

         This may sound silly, but what sold me on Jeter was when I watched him being interviewed after a game. Throughout the interview, he kept referring to his then manager, Joe Torre, as "Mr. Torre"...never Joe, or Skip. Always Mr. Torre. His respect for his manager seemed very genuine. Quite refreshing in this Me-First Era of sports figures.

    I believe Bo Porter's official Title is Head Coach; I haven't seen that since the Cubs way back when; in their case, it was rotating coaches; it didn't work then; they eventually ditched it for Durocher, where they vastly improved; and neither is it now.

    That was a different era; I don't believe ANY Team honored superstars in those days on their last licks, if it was even known; but if you're looking to have a chip on your shoulder, go for it.

    We could bring all his past girlfriends, though I have no idea where they'd sit.

    But seriously ...  haven't read all  the responses, but I'd say similar to what the Sox did for Rivera.
