[QUOTE]If people jump on the pitching injuries bandwagon to apologize for the potential trainwreck, I will offer this: The NYY opening day pitching roster was projected to play out like a pile of crapola, about the level of where our available pitching roster is now.  Didn't work out that way, did it? THat's what stinks: the team with CC and what we projected to be lousy = Colon, Garcia, AJ, Hughes, Nova, J0ba on the DL, Soriano on the DL most of the season = is taking the ALE.  Go figure.   Lesson learned: don't blame it on injuries, blame it on who takes those places.AND Bedard has been fine filling in for Clay, earning 1 win for his troubles.  (Now, he's on the mend. Sigh.)

It's called depth. And NY can afford more of it than anyone else.
That being said, show me where they lost 4 starters at any one time.

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: What the Stats Show -The Red Sox are flawed : They can beat the Tigers without beating Verlander. The better question is: How can the Tigers beat a fairly healthy Redsox if Verlander doesn't win both his starts?

Really? The Sox would win all three games in games pitched by Lester, Lackey and Mystery Pitcher #3.

    They won't even get there.

Beckett is coming back and is one of the best "money pitchers" in MLB history.

Re: What the Stats Show -The Red Sox are flawed

You people who actually think the Redslobs are going gto make thE playoffs are delusional. Their problems run from franoma right down to the great pickups they got at the trade deadline. Aviles and Conor jackson, and bedard have all been no shows. Jackson tried to become part of the right field wall on his first play. It was like watching the Bad News Bears. Aviles has done nothing. He did get thrown out trying to steal second to end the game. That was impressive.  bedard was always injury prone, so signing him was REALLY shrewd THEO! The top hitters cannot get a clutch hit to save their rumps. Papi, and particularly Gonzalez have been excruciatingly painful to watch. A-Gone is a perfect moniker for Gonzalez.
He has pretty much been gone since the All Star break hitting a whopping two HR's at Fenway since July 4th. Crawford has played as expected by me. A small time player playing in a small market who will never rise to what we saw in Tampa, in Boston. What a non threat he is. With men on base, you might as well have Lackey batting, at least he can hit a little. They will NOT get hot. They will lose and when next year comes around, every Yankee fan at Their stadium will have signs flying high with the word CHOKE on them.
