What to do with J.D. Drew?

Another hamstring injury. Yawn. Given the lack of production out of this guy this year (3HR, 10 RBI, .230 AVG, .352 SLUG, .705 OPS) and the fact that this is his last year with the Red Sox, here's hoping his playing time continues to get dimished. Though Cameron hasn't done much of anything, maybe playing more would help out his numbers.

In addition, this team doesn't need a Toothpick Man who keeps the bat on his shoulders 36% of the time.

Cameron has one of the only 2 homer games on the team.

The question is, what to do with Jed Lowrie? He's in his mid 20's and gets a day off after playing only 74% of the games through late May. Talk about a toothpick.

Lowrie hasn't played that many percentage of games because of being platooning before proving he should be the starting shortstop. Before today he had played 12 straight games and played in 27 of the last 28.

Since becoming an everyday player on April 11th, he's played in 38 of 41 games. Sounds like a non-problem.

Wow, 12 straight games, without a day off. Poor Jed. With time off to start the year he should have played in 40 out of 41. He has the constitution of a player in the early 40's.

Re: What to do with J.D. Drew?

Softy, softy.  Classic tactics.  Your man Drew gets attacked, so, rather than defend him, you attack someone else.  Lowrie, unlike Drew, actually contributes with more than double Drew's rbi's.  Drew has become a competent defensive specialist and not much more.  I predicted Reddick would be brought up--largely because Cameron and McDonald don't hit much and certainly not righties--and now think Reddick could be here to stay with Drew getting even less playing time, it that's possible.  But we'll just have to see--a lot can happen between now and the time Drew is officially able to play again.

Re: What to do with J.D. Drew?

Jed isn't playing 1st base or second base, he's playing shortstop, a more difficult position. Kevin Youkilis has been a starter since day one. He's played 46 games, only 3 more than Jed who started off platooning. If Jed is a toothpick, using your logic, Youk must also be a toothpick.

    Again, sounds like a non-problem.

Drew are Cameron are equally as mediocre in my opinion. At least Drew had a spell where he carried the team when Ortiz was out of comission. Cant even remember when that was but it was totally our of character for JD.

just be patient folks, Drew is a terrific fielder that is WAYYYYY overpaid we all know this but its a long season and he is gone after this year he does have value but because he is paid twice what he is worth he gets bashed

FYI this month up to the 23rd.
Lowrie/Pedroia/Ortiz 20 of 23 days with 2 off days in May
    Agon/CC/Jacoby 21 of 23 Youk 19 of 23

lowrie has played in more games than drew and has a better average by nearly 70 points.

    where's the logic?

defense?  If that's the argument, and Lowrie didn't have the offense to offset it, than Softysoldgm would argue he's not worth it because his lack of offense doesn't offset his defense.

    bottom line argument = softsoldgm

Jim, you don't provide the facts. You provide a snipet of "this month". Don't post that nonsense.

Drew is in his mid 30's. Trust me, Jed Lowrie will never ever be anywhere near the quality of career that Drew has had.

i'd rather appreciate the players for what they and what they bring to the team. the constant whining of what they aren't gets tiresome.

    Lester is no Satchel Paige
Ellsbury is no Cool Papa Bell
    Lowrie is no Ozzie Smith
    Beckett is Bob Gibson
    Bard is no Rawley Eastwick

who cares... let's appreciate that the Red SOx are the hottest team in baseball right now. let's root that they continue to do well despite injuries and they they make it to (and win) the world series.

I said, back when the Sox were 0-6 that they would blow by the other teams over the marathon. My concern is always that the proper management decisions are made to give the Red Sox the greatest percentage chance of winning it all, the right way.

ya i would say its pretty simple. If josh reddick plays well then he should continue to start once jd drew returns from his injury. Drew has been terrible at the plate and is slightly above average defensively. So far so good for reddick, 3 for 5 with 3 rbi's and a stolen base is a good way start things off. Lets hope he can keep it going.

I think Drew will eventually be better served as a part time OF'er that comes off the bench to pinch hit.  He can at least find ways to get on base.

Find a place for JD with another team preferably in the NL for a prospect or trade Cam and/or  DFA DMac when Jenks is activated. Then you have Scutaro or Sutton to choose between. Who comes out of the rotation when Lackey is activated?

JD has had a few good games for the Sox and helped with some post season wins but he hasn't been a fan favorite with the "Nation" since he's been here. I think DMac may be the odd man out.
