What's holding up the Hanrahan trade?

Re: What's holding up the Hanrahan trade?

I don't have any inside info nor do I work for the Sox,but the Napoli deal is what the hold up is all about. If Napoli is good to go,then the Sox ask for a different player  maybe a Pirate prospect,if Napoli is a scratch the Sox could be asking for one of the three first basemen on the 40 man roster of the Bucs: Clements,Jones (who can also play the OF) or Alverez. If Napoli is OK maybe they are trying to get a top prospect like Locke.

Re: What's holding up the Hanrahan trade?

The key to the Hanrahan trade is Napoli. If an agreement cannot be reached on his hip then Garrett Jones will be added to the Hanrahan trade and the Sox will add Melancon and another player. Jones is a left handed 1bman and is under control for 3 or 4 years. He hit over 30 homers last year.

Maybe the Pirates asking for Morales. If they Red Sox throw him in this deal, they truly don't know what they are doing.

Re: What's holding up the Hanrahan trade?

The simplest solution is the most likely.  Probably the hold up is because teh Sox and Pirates both agree what calibur of player will be included to round out the deal; hwoever, they havent decided who that player is.

Isn't there a lot of paperwork associated with a trade?

I think people are enjoying the holiday and will get to work on finalizing the deal on the 26th.  It's not a "hold up" just the natural order of things in December.

Of course - if Santa somehow delivers McCutcheon to Boston we will all have a great New Year.

Great player, but I'd prefer to pay a whole lot less to acquire Jones, and give him 400 ABs at 1st and LF than giving up Bogaerts and Bradley +, for McCutcheon.  I continue to think that lineups are built on having tough outs 1-9 than having 6 excellent bats and 3 weakish bats.

Nice player, but just like Stanton, he is so good, at the right age, with a good contract, it's almost impossible to construct a deal for him.

If Santa delivers another 1b Ill be happy as well. Not so sure about naps anymore.

Garrett Jones would be a nice pick up.  I wouldn't have any problem with that.

So does this look like we'll have either Napoli or Jones?  If so, who's the better of the two?

Re: What's holding up the Hanrahan trade?

The Sox could just go ahead and make the deal happen for Jones. Then they would have leverage on Napoli. If Napoli walks away from the restructured contract, so what they have a 1B. But if he takes the deal Jones would make a good platoon option with Gomes in left field and a backup 1B.

Garrett Jones would be perfect. Good bat and defense, only 31, can play 1b and OF, LHH, and not a FA until 2016.
