When we inevitably get the bats going our offense will be a freight train from hell, and V-Tek should be the starting catcher even if he hits.160

    "Freight Train From Hell?"

Is this the opposite of the Coors Light train that comes into town with snow , ice and frosty cold beer?

Why should I debate someone who makes posts as dumb as yours? You don't know what the word counterpart means? That's revealing.

It's closer to 1+ runs, which would make him arguably more valuable than most sluggers, from a Runs Prevention/Generation POV.
Here's an example from 2008: Enjoy.

Varitek is 39 and can't handle full time catching any longer.    That ship has sailed.

Tek should be playing a lot more, especially begining of the season when he's always at his best!!  if Salty isn't gonna be able to hit, which looks to be the case, then atleast let Tek be in there catching so he can call a good game for the pitchers!!!  Salty kept calling for that damn curveball tonight and it obviusly wasn't working well for buccholtz.  He has a great changeup and could have used to to strike guys out tonight but salty kept calling for other pitches

Boston plays .595 ball when Tek starts. Data goes back 12 years.
They play .505 ball when he doesn't.

Last two years: Team is 20-10 when Tek starts. Team is 1-14 when Salty starts.
Salty has time to prove Theo right. But patience is becoming an issue.

    To STEVE: Nice data.

I couldn't agree more that Tek should be starting more often.... the problem is: Tek is no spring chicken. I doubt he can catch 135 games and stay healthy, so somebody else HAS to pick up the slack of catching most like likely 60-70 games. Salty is a giant bust, a huge prospect, playing for his 3rd team without ever having any success at the ML level. Gotta get another catcher who can play 2-3 times a week or this problem will REALLY snowball if Tek gets hurt.
